That bullet would melt and plate itself to the inside of the bore, or simply melt its way through the rifling like a molten blob of metal from a shaped charge - - -
Got any physics majors out there? At what pressure will gunpowder cease to burn? Surely there must be an upper limit that will hold the molecules from 'burning' until the pressure drops enough to allow the 'burning' to continue ... Sort of like water when it's contained in a pressure vessel will stay a super heated liquid far beyond the normal boiling temperature at one atmosphere.
Lookin' at the .17/50BMG makes me think it would apply.
