If you can find them...
357Magnum in Winchester Trapper.
45Colt aka long colt in Winchester Trapper
I and/or "We" owned both of the above in 'pistol calibers'. I loved them. I did make some changes in my gun collection and due to my move out west as planned, after my late husband died. I sold the pistol calibers (Rifles.) and bought a 30-30 for Montana.
If you can't find a good Trapper get a Marlin because I happen to love Marlins too. (I love my Browning in BL 22 but that is a rimfire caliber! A Winchester 94-22 is sweet too!) My late husband owned a Marlin in 357Magnum and my groom/husband owns many Marlins in you name it! Grin.
I like the Marlin Model 336 in 30-30 but that is not what you are asking about too.

A 44Magnum is very good although I did not PERSONALLY own a RIFLE in one but I did own that S&W Model 29. We owned a 29-2 and a 29-3 in that gun. I know guys who own a Model 629, Model 29 and a Marlin in 44Magum and they LOVE that caliber as ones in 357Magnum and 45Colt aka long colt! I rented a SWEET Model 629 back east too.
S&W and Ruger make great handguns and I am VERY biased towards them... especially in Ruger Single Actions... grin.

I absolutely ADORE the Ruger Blackhawk in 45Colt but if I was worried about ammunition costs and did not 'reload' along with buying ammo... I would choose a NICE and STRONG... 357Magnum. I could use 38Special Plus P in it too. My husband reloads.
RUGER Blackhawk New Model 357Magnum.
Or
RUGER SP101® · Satin Stainless

Or a D/A in a Ruger and/or S&W.
I like combo guns - guns and rifles in pistol calibers and my late husband and I had that back east long before I started to buy my own guns back in 1998! Ours were for self defense not for hunting although we had NOTHING against hunting or hunters.
I do like a BIG rifle for some parts of the country too. A sweet 30-30 and a 45-70 (My husband's not mine = 45-70.) are 2 of my TOP favorites for NON pistol calibers.
Best wishes!
Catherine
PS: Many years ago I saw a SWEET black rifle in 9MM. I think that it was in a Ruger or in a Marlin but I am not positive - I was NEW to buying MY own guns back in 1998! I owned a Glock Model 19C and I almost bought a rifle so I would have twins for 9mm caliber! I love 22LR for combo handguns and rifles too. I have several of them. Excuse my ramble here and let us know what you decide on.
