I just realized that I'm making an assumption in this exercise that others may not be, including Cajun (OP).
When I list my "single gun, the only one I can ever own" (makes me cringe a bit to write that), I'm assuming that I'm not alone. I'm not a wandering samuri, but part of a ... um, neighborhood, community, squad, collective, tribe, whatever ... maybe even including some of you. (I mean, we are a community of sorts anyway.)
Each (unhappy) person has their "one gun"
that make up a tool kit in the group: at least one shotgun (more likely several), a couple of bolts (for long range), some revolvers, pistols, surely an AK/AR or ten, etc. We are allowed to share.
In this scenario, I'm just picking out the tool that I would most want to be "in charge of" (carrying in transit, daily use, care and feeding, etc).
Again, for me, with my interests, potential uses, and sheer love of the gun (including the way it handles, carries, shoots, its weight and size, all of which are just optimal for me, best I've ever owned), that's an 1894C with an African-carry sling with a healthy array (large diversity) of .357 mag and .38 spl (probably FMJ ball in the later case to reduce jams). I'm also assuming there is reloading equipment in the community.
YMMV about the assumption. I guess a lot of folks are playing this game assuming they're alone in the wilderness, urban or wild.
Sort of curious to know ...
