Lots of very interesting, and to my mind very thoughtful choices. And there have also been some people who are "coloring outside the lines" of the original criteria established by the thread, which specifically stated no conversions, uppers, or multiple barrels. If I am going to put in my own choices here, I feel I have to hew strictly to the guidelines, and I am also going to take on some more, self imposed. The obvious problem with my choices (and, to my mind, anyone else who didn't choose one) is the lack of a .22LR rimfire rifle, but rules are rules.

Personal criteria that fall within the overal specifications:

1) This gun's gotta hunt.

2) This gun also has to function socially.

3) This gun has to be chambered in a standard, universally available caliber.

4) This gun has to be one I've used extensively and have absolute confidence in its performance, reliability, and durability.

Ruger GP-100 6" .357/.38 (I know lots of people have used CCW as a personal stricture. This piece isn't easily carried, but it's doable in a shoulder rig. It's also quite accurate and very flexible.)

Remington 870 12. ga 3" chamber synthetic 20" deer barrel iron sights. (This gun has interchangeable choke tubes, but as this is standard with the barrel that came with the gun, technically it falls within the criteria.)

SA M1A .308. (As with many contributors to this thread, I agree the rifle was the tough one, but I'll stick with the one choice and not give alternatives.)

Glock 21
Benelli M1S90 12ga w/18.5" barrel, rifle sights, straight stock & +4 extension
AR15 w/Bushmaster flattop upper w/Eotect and 16" A2 upper

Handgun: 1911 Commander in 9mm or .45 with lightweight frame

Shotgun: Remington 870 with 18" barrel

Rifle: Swissarms PE90....the legal in Canada civilian version of the Sig 550

shotgun: CZ redhead deluxe 20 guage over/under

pistol: HK P7M8 9mm with Nill Custom Walnut Grips

rifle: Marlin 45-70 lever action, custom refined by Yost-Bonitz with ghost ring sights, full length opticvs rail, enlarged lever loop, and bridsong Black -T finish, and Glaco leather Butt cuff.

These would allow for my varied hunting and self-defense pursuits.

Will also add 3 Blades: Chris Reeve Wood Inlay Large Sebenza folding knife; Swiss Army Champion w/survival kit and pouch; and TOPS outfitter axe.

Ithaca Model 37, with a few extra barrels.

M1911 (mine is a Kimber) with an old Colt Service Ace conversion kit, so I can shoot both .45 ACP and .22 LR.

Winchester Model 70 (pre-'64) in .30-06.

Forget what I said before.
CZ 452
Browning BPS
Sig P229.

Let's see

For a shotgun, I'd take my remington 870 with an 18inch smoothbore barrel and rifle sights and a second longer hunting barrel (28 inch).

Handgun, I'd take my taurus 82. I'm very happy with this gun.

Rifle, I think I'd want a good semiauto .22. The Ruger 10/22 seems a solid choice. Of course, I don't already own one of these, so I guess my Lakefield would do.

If I had to go down to just two, I'd go traditional - my Ruger Vaquero and Winchester Model 94 Trapper carbine, both chambered for the .357 Magnum cartridge. Same ammo, ease of operation and disassembly, and reliability out the wazoo.

1. Shotgun: High Standard 12ga. riot gun. (like the one in my bedroom closet)
2. Pistol: Ruger Security-Six 357 Mag. (like the one in the nightstand on my wifes side of the bed.)
3. Remington "Nylon 66" Semi-Automatic 22 rifle. (like the one I gave my niece). Hard to find now, but extremely accurate, large capacity, small size overall.
