LOL. Been helping a buddy with his 01 GT Mustang putting a 5.4 built block in there. Cams and crank are pushing the displacement out to 352. On a turbo and everything, it's pushing a little over 800 horse power. Thing is a rocket! From a stop we can do a block pretty fast, it only feels like a couple seconds. It's nuts.

But yeah, I'm super excited, lol. I might be able to do the bedding block myself, too. We'll see where things go.

cool, the idea with the square tube seemed good. Cant afford the cost of square tube right now tho LOL. seen some nice aluminum square tubeing on ebay the other day while i was pricing parts for another project.

Ive had some aluminum welded, but never tried it myself either. Nothing more annoying then having a horizontal feed adapter welded to a paintball marker and have the person doing it put it on backwards.....

I'm pulling some strings. I'm trying to get out to get the materials this week. Might have a ride down lined up. So, some of the things I'll need:

1 Sheet of 3/4" finish grade, venier core birch plywood
Some strong epoxy (Recommendations on what type?)
OD Green paint (or some thing close.)

I already have the clear coat, but should I use something that is a bit more... Solid? after curing? Polyurethane? The finishing, obviously, won't be done until the rifle is fitted to the stock.

Come income tax, I'm hoping to be able to pick up a couple more Mosins 91/30's, or maybe one and a UK-59 barreled reciever from classic arms. I'm not sure yet. Might stick with two 91/30s and a UK-59 barreled action. We'll see.

^ those old mosin barrels are easy to get off so you dont need to buy a reciever from classic its actually better to buy a full mosin so that you have all the parts you need and what you dont end up needing you can sell off to help pay for the costs.

yep thats what im doing the best part is that when you buy a reciever and a barrel from classic thats all you get you still need a magazine a bolt, trigger, etc to make it work when you buy a mosin you got all that you just get the old barrel off and put the new one on there.

i see no reason you need an epoxy for gluing those together, plain wood glue is stronger than the wood itself. Now as far as a gun stock goes, i dont know. But every project ive done or seen done used plain old wood glue and you could never tell. I think proper clamping is more imperative.

I was thinking about drilling some holes through the blanks, through trigger guard area, skeletonized stock, and up on the fore-end in some excess. then running some long lag bolts and some small plates to act as washers, then put a nut on all the bolts and tightening them down solid. Not sure what kind of torque I'd need to meet the needed clamping pressure... Or I might make a press board, about the size of the stocks, an have bolts evenly spaced around the board to be clamped down on top of the stock. I'd do this in my basement. As climate controlled as I can get.

Alright, just got back from Menard's. I opted out of getting epoxy right now because I didn't know for sure what I needed. If you have a suggestion on what I should use, please tell me so I can go and get it.

I picked up:

1 10" Half Round Bastard file- $6.38
4 9" x 11" packages of sandpaper (60, 100, 150, 220 grits) $2.17 ea. $8.68
1 can of Rust-oleum Specialty Camouflage, Matte, OD Green $3.89
1 3/4" x 4' x 8' Natural Birch, veneer core plywood $44.97

Giving me a total of $81.66, taking away two sodas and $10.00 in gas. Around $69 before sodas and gas money to the friend who took me down to Menard's.

Way to go LJ, can't wait to see the progress.

Lol I've used Rust-oleum in previous projects and have had good results. I like their brand. Just wish it was as cheap as walmart brand spray paint. I'd love to spend a dollar per can.

Savage, that's great! lol.

Should be starting soon, but I'll need to know for certain what kinds of epoxy will work with stock construction. Anyone know what kind to use?

ive heard tightbond III is good stuff. Epoxy has some issues with overclamping and squeezing out of joints. Glad to see you got your stuff , thats the camo paint i use too :D
