Why do you love/hate your State (in relation to firearms opportunities)?

the good thing about MA is we can cary anywhere but bars and schools. i feel thats a fair deal.

"Per capita PA is second only to Texas in gun ownership.

But we're working on it."

Ya'll are gonna needa work HARDER cause Arizona completally blows TX away for firearms ownership per population, we also have the largest number of Registered NFA weapons of all 50 states :D Comes from AZ bein a right to carry state since it was admitted to statehood in 1912 Open carry has never been prohibited and after CCW was added (onea the first 5 states to go "Shall issue") most households are multiple gun households with some of the largest privatly owned collections in the country..........

Ya'll could start goin door to door in PA handin out guns for those who don't have any :D

Ohio: We just repealed every gun control law below the state level, and there aren't a whole lot of state gun control laws! We have shall-issue CCW, which is progressively being improved.

Ohio is pretty good, but a couple of things still need to be fixed....Stop the Leftist media from publishing CCW license holder lists.

Make the "Castle Doctrine" law so that if you are involved in a shooting, when the DA rules "Good Shoot", that is the end. No more of this stuff of the deceased criminal elements family sueing for wrongful death, etc.

Wow after reading this thread I relies how good we have it here in UT.

I can carry just about anywhere including schools/universities, no gun signs mean nothing except in churches.
The only permits we have are CCW and they are good for 5 years and cost $10 to renew. $59 the first time.

VIRGINIA

Lots of +'s here, but my last state was NY so there you go

we have:
the castle doct.
we're shall issue
permits are fast
we're class III legal
no permits for open carry

cons:
there are lots of gov't banned areas
we're too close to DC, at least I am

all in all, we're not NY

NY seems to think VA needs NY rules, however.

VA has: instant background checks; carry in plain sight in auto; no permits to purchase. On the minus side it has one-handgun-a-month limit (unless you have your CHP.) Also not many states reciprocate with VA's CHP.

All-in-all, it's a pretty good gun state. However, Fairfax county is becoming increasingly liberal and turning VA from red to blue. So who knows how long it will be before it becomes MD.

-Ak's more expensive than a chicken
How much do your chickens cost?! Here we got them for around $6.

Also what state are you speaking of?
______

I'm in Ky. Yeah, a chicken here costs about the same. I was just thinking of how we've heard that "in some parts of africa an AK is less expensive than a chicken". I've always thought it was funny, because I imagine that a chicken is probably pretty expensive in a famine-wracked area.

Mary's Land

Positive:

- No AWB *yet*.
- Not that I can afford it, but Class 3 toys are still okay.

Negative:

- Handgun spent casing law that serves no useful purpose but to jack up prices at local dealers.

- Local ordinances, especially Montgomery County, aimed at killing shooting sports.

- A correction on what's been mentioned earlier: the law on transport only applies to handguns, not all guns. However, rifles and shotguns still have to be unloaded when in transport.

Only two things I'd like to see changed in Ohio. One, make the CCW bypass the NICS check, and two, make it a carry permit, rather than only concealed.

MI

Biggest problem/con in Michigan is the mandatory "safety inspection", (read that as registration). Other than that and a few items concerning gun free zones I think we're on the right track.

Being in Texas, I love the general attitude towards firearms. There are more transplants moving in by the day, but by far, most people seem to be gun friendly or at least neutral. Contrast this with New Jersey where even the most non-realistic toy guns gave parents heartburn.

I do wish there was public land to shoot on out here. Nevertheless, God bless Texas and all her inhabitants!

The only negatives I can think of for Arizona are:
  • No restaurant carry
  • No Alaska/Vermont carry
  • :cuss: Californians that want to get away from CA and make AZ just like it again.:fire:

Things I like about Arizona:
  • Tolerant attitudes about open carry.
  • Lots of public land open to shooting and hunting.
  • Lots of quality gunshops.
  • Lots of world-class instructors (esp. around Prescott).
  • Lots of firearms industry.
  • Easy to get CCW, and getting easier every year.

Make the "Castle Doctrine" law so that if you are involved in a shooting, when the DA rules "Good Shoot", that is the end. No more of this stuff of the deceased criminal elements family sueing for wrongful death, etc.

This is by far the biggest thing I worry about having a CCW in Ohio. Ridiculous what criminal scum can do when the laws are just plain ol' stupid.

the good thing about MA is we can cary anywhere but bars and schools. i feel thats a fair deal.

Hoppy590, the only place by law were you can NOT carry is schools. Bars are NOT included in the law, you CAN carry in bars.

I'm with you on the pros and cons but,

CNYCACHER said:
For purposes of this posting NYC is considered a separate state
I wish it was!
Or make it another district like we have in the "District of Columbia". Something, anything, but just completely separate it from the state somehow. Then the likes of Clinton and Schumer could represent the "District of NY" and not the whole state. :barf: :banghead:

Wisconsin:

Pros:

- No caliber or bullet type bans.
- Huge hunting culture.
- No type, make, model, or function bans.
- No magazine/capacity bans.
- No purchase limits (Aka one gun a month laws).
- No special FID, FOID, or purchase permits or owners permits.
- No registration beyond the normal Fed. 4473 and background check.
- Private sales are legal/unregulated.
- State wide gun-law preemption. (No city bans)
- Gun range protection. (Aka "we were here first, so suck it!)
- NFA items legal.
- Open carry legal. (In theory at least, if not practice)
- Long guns: Cash, 4473, NICS, and carry…
- Unambiguous and well-worded state RKBA amendment.

Cons:

- No CCW whatsoever, for anybody. Not even a may-issue permit system.
(Bright side, at least the wealthy and/or connected are just as screwed as the peons.)
- Two business day wait on handgun purchases.
- Huge hunting culture. (Not always the same as a huge RKBA culture)
- Gun shows suck. Stores are wildly over-priced.
- Gov. Jim Doyle.
- Winter cuts into range time. (unless you're very hard-core)
- No "peaceable journey" or "safe travel" car-carry.
- Strict transport requirements. (Locked case, unloaded, no loaded magazines.)

Short version, WI is no worse than Federal Law in terms of what you can buy and own. We've got a two-day handgun wait, no permits or licenses, and no CCW.

If we had a just and fair shall-issue CCW permit system WI would spring instantly from a bottom-five RKBA freedom state to a top-five, IMO.

Things I hate in CT:

1) Assault weapon ban even though you can buy post ban configurations that are okay.

2) Needing a permit to carry.

3) No castle doctrine law.

4) No stand your ground law.

5) No clarity on open carry. There is no law against it, but the Firearms website claims your permit can be placed in jeopardy if you blow concealment.

6) No select fire for automatic weapons, full-auto only...

Things I like in CT:

1) Concealed carry easy enough to get.

2) Hardly any off-limits places.

3) Fairly neutral people on gun ownership (at least around this part of CT).

4) 4 or 5 ranges 20 miles or so from my home.

5) Private range at the house as well...

Quoted from Winchester 73
Florida
The good:
CCW commonly accepted 420,000 permits second only to PA
State Parks,National Forests,Wildlife Mgm. Areas OK
Car carry without permit OK if concealed in glove box, console or zippered case.
No restrictions on rifles, shotguns and "assault weapons".
" " " machine guns with Fed.License.
Uniform laws throughout state,preemption law.
Signs have no force of law
Castle Doctrine Stand your ground law
Reciprocity with about 31 states

The bad:Off limits areas
Schools K-College
Police Stations
Bars 51 % rule in restaurants
Courthouses
Non sterile and sterile areas of airports

The ugly:
No open carry

Adding on:
The Good: Shall Issue

The bad: South Florida tri-county area (where I live) is a cess pit
No public land to shoot on in south fla
Shortage of good ranges
VERY HOT

boredelmo, you forgot to add this about Houston

Top LE officials don't like signing off for you to get Class III weapons. It almost takes a lawsuit to get them to do their job, and a very long time, if ever.

But on the whole, I love Texas (but not all Texans i.e. gun grabbing Sheila Jackson Lee)

Thanks MikeH.

Unfortunately, as a newly competing bullseye shooter, handguns are mostly what I have with me, but great to know about the rifles.
