How practical are they

Practicality isn't really part of the idea of this just for fun topic...but there have been claw weapons in the past and their absence except for very limited "use" in time and location speaks volumes to their practicality.

My sophomore year in shop a classmate tried to make one from scratch. Never saw the finished product.
