Would you carry without your CCW on a trip?

the facts are that millions upon millions of people go about their daily lives in public, unarmed, with no issues whatsoever

True, but there are dozens or maybe hundreds who get robbed, raped, or murdered each day.

Statistics are just a number until something happens to you or one of your family - ask me how I know :(

well some form of open carry in a vehicle is allowed in most states, so even though I don't have a permit, yes I would still carry on a road trip.

I would check up on the open carry laws in the states I was passing through (in case I plan to get out of the car) as well as the vehicle carry requirements for those states. Oh, and I'd make a point to stay out of Illinois on my way.

Taking road trips I usually have a gun with me, packed in the trunk. I am more worried about breakdowns and motels at night that I am of being attacked by motorized zombies while traveling at 65mph on the interstate. When I reach my destination. I stay away from places that don't seem friendly and stay alert. Living in a non CCW state you get use to being without.

Art's right about playing life's odds. Mugger vs. jail term vs. life-long regret vs. absolutely nothing happening. Most people, including myself, have "won" thus far.

Some people didn't carry because it was illegal. Some of those lost. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luby's_massacre )

Note that "CCW" is not an acronym for a license. CCW is the act of carrying a concealed weapon. I admit, you will see it misused quite often.

Different states refer to licenses with different terms. Mine is a CWP or Concealed Weapon Permit. Since I don't need "permission" to exercise a right, and it is strictly about a handgun rather than any other weapon, I favor the Texas CHL or Concealed Handgun License as the best terminology. Actually, it isn't that tough to simply spell out "license". There is nothing cool or in-the-know about using acronyms, when just a few more letters would be perfectly clear. At least you use you shift key. Capital letters where appropriate are appreciated.

There is legal precedence where a truck is an office and place of work and legal to carry. So how about a car on a vacation. I think that if a person is legal to carry concealed in their state, that the permit should extend to automobile, motel or any other place that person would travel. I would hate to end up on "the wrong side of town" and not be able to legally defend myself. As a retired couple in our 70's we travel a lot and know we are favorites of the criminals. What they won't realize until it is too late is that we are both PPC competitors. Just want to keep things legal.
