A few of my friends know I carry, and a few of my coworkers (military) as well. Usually because I went shooting with them, and eventually I had to take my pistol out of the holster so I could get in some practice. Apparently I conceal it pretty well from the looks of surprise I got. I recently took a female friend shooting, who I'm not sure is on board with the idea of concealed carry. I also limited my pro-gun propaganda speech to home defense arguments.

Don't ask, don't tell, is the best policy.

And don't act like you've never gotten a chubby from looking at a sleek refinished M1 Garand.

A bit of sound advice.

Mind your own business.

Nobody knows you're carrying. They don't care about you. Just go about your business like there's nothing going on.

Because there's nothing going on.

That said, I don't much care for the vibe in Seattle. ...Not quite the MYOB Western culture...

I didn't either when I was out there, but the bikini espresso stands are a plus. Other than that, it sucked, especially since I was out there for 1.5 weeks with no guns.

CCW doesn't make you part of a mystical brotherhood or secret society where your gun is a membership card.

Keep it to yourself until it becomes nothing more than a responsibility-motivated PITA.
Amen. The Sheriff didn't issue me a club card, with a secret handshake and a decoder ring.
The firearm I carry is a tool; nothing more, nothing less.

There was a time when people weren't so afraid of each other.
It has nothing to do with fear. I carry concealed for a reason.
If I wanted every Tom, Dick, and Sally in a book store to know I was carrying, I'd OC.

Mr Clean; great answer.

I have been carrying just over a year. I fooled around with a "big gun" and now I have a Taurus 85UL with a pocket holster. I have an 11 y/o son who I am trying to teach shoot, but he knows daddy carries. He's really good about it, but every now and again I have to remind him: "This is daddy's busisness and I am doing what I have a right to do."

I don't even look to see if others are carrying. I assume that if anyone else has a gun, he/she is either a BG or not. Either way, I feel prepared. And that doesn't always mean emptying my pocket. That's why God gave me two feet.

Once again, thanks for reminding others that we don't belong to a fraternity.

Regarding concealed carry..

"Always carry, never tell."

"Don't ask, don't tell."

I mind my own business and appreciate it when others do likewise....

I am not automatically a "fraternal brother", "buddy" or "soul mate" with any person simply because they own a firearm.

None of your business.

and

None of mine. If I am concerned, I will gain distance and observe or leave the area entirely.

Personally I don't find other folks who carry are a threat or worry. Here in Arizona open carry is legal too. So even if it is a poor concealed carry effort, I really don't concern myself. I just track where a known weapon is as part of my tactical awareness. The behavior of the person with the weapon will dictate my actions or inaction, not the fact that they have a weapon.

Go figure.

I feel the need to share it with somebody who may also have the same love for the sport.
Carrying a concealed weapon is not a sport.

Don't confuse it with being a gun enthusiast.

Well, there is alot of things about Germany that bother me; the Austrians were much more friendly anyhow.

Well said. I don't put on my gun every morning thinking, "boy this is great fun!", It's more like, "God I pray I don't have to shoot anyone today."

CCW

this is interesting in a way.all this CCW is a relativly new experiance.[not for me]few CCW before the 60/70s.Mass had a permit to carry since 1906,and I had a permit from WW2 to 1998.you could carry any way.most did not carry as there was no need to.not to say there was no crime.I lived in roxbury Mass for 10yrs and never carried.the mafia did not allow crime in their naborhood.when I moved out of boston in the 50s I never even locked the door to the house.then in the 70s everything changed.kennedy bused the ethnics to mass and every thing has gone down.the more crime the more gun control.I dont believe in OP,not because it is wrong but because the BG then knows you have a gun and will shoot you then rob you.the old timers did not want to shoot just rob.they could get light time but kill some one and by by.

I guess you never lived in California (or are LE).:)

I put on my gun on every morning thinking, "boy this is great fun to live in a free state!"

THEN it's "God I pray I don't have to shoot anyone today."

I agree with all the answers of not to ask.

But I will add this, if it's blatantly obvious, and your state doesn't allow open carry, I at least would like a discreet heads up. Nothing more than "You're printing" is needed here.

I would think that any of us were in danger of breaking the law by a technicallity, we'd like a heads up. I may be wrong, and I may be the only one, but that's me. And I'd see to help out a fellow gunny. But like I said, discreetly, meaning very discreetly.

BTW- Thank God I don't have to worry about it. Georgia allows OC.

Maybe I got a bulge looking at gun mag pictures once. But who can resist when it's a S&W Model-52!

I dont think that would be the first thing that came out of my mouth. I would comment on the book that he was looking at and try to start a converstaion. if he was comfortable and seemed to have his head on his shoulders, I might ask if he has any guns. If he said yes, i would ask a little about them moving on to whether he is pro or anti concealed carry. if hes pro id ask if he usually does, not if he was at the moment.

I guess id say id work my way around asking him, but not asking directly unless he flat out said it, never disclosing that I had my ccw on me or that I do 90% of the time I leave the house.

I have never been "outed" I have however outed myself in order to inform another.

I work in a position to ID people on a regular basis. Occasionally I have caught sight of a CCW and asked the owner about it. Most people are happy to talk about their carry and techniques as long as the know the inquisitor is on their side.
