Your chosen 'MinuteMan' rifle....

If I ever had to actually take up a rifle and go out to do battle this is what I would take. Not a high-capacity semi-auto, I would want this bolt gun in .223 because my personal philosophy is that if anyone I want to shoot gets close enough to see me then I am not doing it correctly.

I think this is the ultimate urban sniper rifle. Compact and light, it is insanely accurate. I have shot 1/2" groups at 100 yards with military surplus 5.56 ammo (which seems to work fine for all you folks screaming that 223 and 556 are different). Ammo is lighter so I can carry more of it and it's the same as our military uses in case I need to scrounge for more.

If any of this stuff made sense in the real world it would seem like we could point out this or that guerrilla group who preferred battle rifles sometime in the last 50 years but universally the preference seems to be for some sort of assault rifle if there is a choice. Now maybe this is because guys who've been fighting for their entire adult lives in obscure corners of the 3rd World don't know as much about combat and what works on the battlefield

It would seem that the AK is not a battle rifle, but an assault rifle... and I don't even know what guerrilla groups fight with other than the AK.

to all you 30cal guys, how much ammo do you think you can carry,I've got 500rds of 7.62x39 in a can

7.62 is the same as 30 caliber, fyi.

I picked my Mossberg because a) it's my favorite rifle I own, b) it is reliable, c) it will put a bullet where the cross hairs are d) I will only have to shoot someone once. It's a .30-06.
Now, I wouldn't lug around 500 rounds... because I don't need to shoot 500 times in one sitting...

You hope you'll have to shoot an opponent only once. The difficulty with opponents is that they don't always go along with how we plan on things working out. Real life opponents, particularly trained ones, aren't always cooperative with our preconceived notions.

I would first promise...

...To explore proactively in order to initiate the dawn of a new paradigm by which bonds newly forged in the crucible of understanding will burst-forth the doors of opportunity to facilitate the building of a poll-tested bridge to a fresh spirit of cooperation...

If "option one" doesn't work, well...

an SKS.

I'd be more than happy with my Lee Enfield No4 Mk1.

I'm not really looking to knock down a MBT with it or anything but it'll work for pretty much anything else I have to deal with.

Yeah, like I really respect the opinions of ragged guerrilla types wandering around in third-world jungles. I recall back in the 1980s when we learned that African "freedom fighters" always extended the bayonets on their AK47s because it made the gun bigger and therefore more powerful.

Geez, I want to take tactical advice from these guys.

I'll only have to *hit* him once. If he can still outrun me with a .30-06 wound (wherever it may be), I'm gonna wish I had a more powerful gun, not 500 rounds of ammo.
If I am engaged with enough people to justify 500 rounds at one time, that changes the equation entirely, and I would probably be in more trouble than I could handle anyways.

Ak47 & g21

An AK47 backed up by a GLOCK G21 in .45acp, Don't get much better, = (my .02 cents). & if I need a sniper weapon throw in my Remington 700 adl in .270 or .308.

Your "Minuteman" weapon can be anything you are willing to snatch up, and without hesitation, kill your fellow human being, whether he be standing over your bed in the middle of the night, or somebody you've been lying in wait for on the road for hours.
Is your target a "Zombie", "Intruder", "Russian", "Terrorist", or whatever?
I maintain there there isn't much importance in what weapon you use, as long as you are willing to kill a fellow human being with it.
Are you an experienced human killer? If so, you know it doesn't make much difference which weapon you use, from a jackknife to a .50 Barrett sniper rifle.
What does matter is your mental ability to kill another human being without hesitation.
Audie Murphy had that mindset. He killed dozens of Germans with the humble little M-1 Carbine, a weapon which most of us armchair warriors tend to sneer at.
He even pulled a pistol and killed a man in Los Angeles in a dispute over a dog. He had that "killer instinct".
Do you?

I grab my Pre-ban M4gery, tactical vest (with ammo) and a copy of my life insurance policy: "You can't shoot back! You'll be sued!";)

Seriously, what we will face will be the former residents of our cities who chose to kill and loot when the handouts stopped.

m1 garand reliable semi auto quick to reload pretty failsafe only problem is ammo its large and heavy plus not alot of places sell m2 ball so youd have to use standard .30-06 but oh well if it fails in a shtf situation another gun will probably be available at some point

7.62x39 is even on the questionable side....In the case of an invasion, don't count on Russia/Eastern Europe shipping much ammo to aid us.

In case of invasion I doubt the military is going to let ammo they can use on the shelves either. A relatively minor emergency like Katrina had that whole region of the country bought out of ammo in hours. It is unlikely you are going to find anything but what you have stored away and what can be taken off others.

Uhmm, no he didn't what?
Kill a man in a dispute over a dog in Los Angeles?
Or, have that "killer instinct?"
Have you read a book entitled "NO NAME ON THE BULLET"?
Everything is covered there, from his impoverished East Texas childhood, to his war years, to his Hollywood years, his love live, and everything else, up till his death in the plane crash.
So, what part do you disagree with?

1. Ar15 on a single point sling with 12 spare loaded mags (10 30-rounders, 2 20-rounders).
2. G19 with four spare mags.
-Spare mags for AR and G19 and other essentials are carried comfortably in my vest
3. Mossberg 500 on a standard two-point sling with spare ammo in my Versipak or BOB, depending on the situation.
4. Knife will be clipped to my pocket, where it always is.

If I'm in a more urban location I'll use my T56SHTF with drum and 30 round magazines.
If I'm in a more rural setting I'll use one of my M14s with 20 and 25 round magazines.

Kill a man in a dispute over a dog in Los Angeles?

That's a lie as far as I can tell. From what I've read it's possible he may have shot at a person regarding a dog dispute but that's not killing a man...

"A decade after To Hell and Back and just a
year before the governor spoke at Audie Murphy Day
in Greenville, the revered hero-cum-movie star spent
four hours in jail, charged with assault with intent to
commit murder after beating a Burbank dog trainer
who called him "a pipsqueak and a phony movie
hero."

*edit, it doesn't even look as if your dog dispute assertion is true.
