If the SHTF we need like groups of 4, Allow me to explain: The number 1 man carrys an assult rifle, AK, AR whatever, #2 is the sniper long, longrange gun, #3 heavy weapons, rpgs, m60's, saw, #4 If possible have a scilenced weapon, like the H&K mp-5 with scilencer, if not possible a Assult rifle/Semi-auto. All would have combat knife a few grenades, pistol, and a medical pack. In my opinion if there where 50 of these teams operating against the invader it would make life very difficult for them. But eventually we would all be using the enemys weapons, as we would have to pick up weapons off the dead. A small well balanced team can do a lot of damage, Then multiply by ?1,000? even though I know there are more people than that who would come out and fight.

With 30 and 20 round mags and 75 round drums (note, I carry my weapon with a 20 rounder - 8 30's are in my vest - and I have a canvas bag that I can throw over a should that I carry all my 20's, 30's and my drums in - I can drop it on a moments notice - but it will still be 'at hand')

CZ52 - with 12 mags

Which all resides in this vest ...

Think modular - what can you shoot and then you can drop the weapon, the ammo carrier or whatever (coming back for it later MAY BE an option - or not)

Arthur, you should have gone to the High Caliber gun show on the 11th. :neener: That's where my AR found me and followed me home from. And yes, you can come play in our sandbox. Bring diet coke...the one bit of civilization I can't do without..... :D

Let's see, depends on the situation at hand. Mossberg Mariner 12ga, Rock River M4, Colt 1911 sidearm and Buck knife.

What's mine?
In about 2 days, it will be an Enfield No. 4 Mark. I.
I like to consider it as one step down from the Garand...

Now this is an old thread!

Nolo - IIRC, the Garand was known to be "pretty good" in the reliability department but an Enfield is about as close to perfect as it gets. Bolt actions just have fewer moving parts to get screwed up. The only real downside to an Enfield is that surplus ammo is nonexistent.
OTOH, new production stuff ain't much more than 7.62x51.

Watch Red Dawn much?

I can grab a K-31 or my A2 config AR-15 with ACOG along with corresponding load bearing equipment of spare ammo and be out of the house in a minute, so I guess those are my "minuteman rifles" Stop by my truck to get the Camelbak o' Doom and I should be good for a few days.

SKS. Hands down. Reliable, accurate enough, not being dependant on magazines (a mag fed rifle with no more mags is a single shot rifle). Cheap practice ammo (and FMJ works well enough now in the military)...plus I'm already familar with it (and it's a lot more reliable than the M16A2 I was issued).

I've given extended thought to the underground militia concept.
And I've come up with a couple things:
A major gun manufacturer, dedicated to the cause of liberty, might, possibly, one day come out with a weapon that seems like a bolt action on the surface, and is a bolt action, and thus passes muster as a "sporting weapon" to would-be tyrants, but actually is a modular system, capable of being easily converted to semi- or even fully-automatic. This would need to be a new production gun, and would preferably be sold at artificially low price to ensure distribution, and one kit per every gun produced would be kept in a private armory, ready for distribution to the people during a crisis...
I am dreaming...
Or you could have someone with significant disposable income by as many surplus Mosin-Nagants as he or she can and ammo to boot, and then train recruits in "Khyber Pass" harassment tactics.
Just thoughts.

Seems like this is a recurring theme.

I'm all about .22 lately. I can shoot .22 in my back yard.

I don't currently have a good reach out and touch 'em rifle. Best I own is a Mosin M39 which is decently accurate but I can't see open sights all that good. Future plan involves .243 or .260 in a Savage.

Medium caliber has my Chi-com SKS. It is plenty accurate to 100yd. No serious plan at this time for anything else.

Handgun will be 1911.

I have several .22... think "poke 'em in the eye".....

Here are my choices for defense/offense. Top is a 50 bmg with 3) 10 rd mags, middle is a DPMS LR 308 with 12) 20 rd mags, and bottom is a Bushmaster AR-15 with 14) 30 rd mags and 2) 100 Beta mags.

Magnuumpwr, that has to be one of the ugliest rifles I've ever seen.
The fifty, I mean.
It's like someone took the gun off of a Panzer and shoved it onto an AR lower!

Don't have a minuteman rifle at this point in time. I'm thinking about getting an Mini-14 in the next year or so (as they've apparently fixed some of the accuracy problems and I don't particularly like AR15's or AK/SKS's). Then, after I graduate college, I'll probably get an M1A.

For now, my Remington 870 fills the role of "civil defense" gun.

Oh lord, Walter Mitty time!

If the S ever H's T F around here, I'll probably open both my safes, and stand there mumbling:

"Maybe one of the Garands? I've got CASES of bandoleers... can't go wrong there...

"But maybe the AR- more practical all around, got plenty of Green Tip for it, too...

"But my wife and I could BOTH carry M1 carbines... Good thing I stocked up on ammo.

"Thing is, I don't really trust her with the Daisy BB gun. Better give her the AirSoft pistol I got at Wal Mart.

"I'll probably pass on the Lee Enfields, though I shouldn't write them off too quickly. I've been saving those old Iraqi bandoleers of .303 for this very day...

" Hmmmm. Decisions.

"Course my eyes have gotten so bad I can't actually HIT anything past buckshot range. I should probably just grab the Shotty. Yeah. The ol' 12 guage!

"Or I could give it to my wife, unloaded, and let her RACK it repeatedly. You know what they say about that terrifying sound.

"I guess I'll grab a Garand, since I've got all those bandoleers. Hurts my thumb loading those AR mags. Why didn't I ever get that LULA?

"Thing is, the M1 is just so dang heavy, though.

"Oh, forget it. I'll just crawl in bed and pull the covers over my head.

"With the Shotty, of course. Or maybe the AR? "

If the S ever H's T F around here, I'll probably open both my safes, and stand there mumbling:

LOL! I've had the same thought. And then going through the house going "wait, I might need this..." Kind of like Steve Martin at the end of "The Jerk".

"All I need is this thermos..."

My ex called me after there were some local break-ins and rapes. She said she heard someone messing with the sliding door so she pulled out her S&W .357. I asked her what she did next. She said "well, the first thing that went through my mind was 'should I use the Magsafe or the Hydrashock?'"

Guess those combat shooting classes paid off for her! At least she wasn't panicking. Nothing happened, luckily...

Funny how a thread can have a date on the last post of 2006 and someone comes and re-starts it like nothing ever happened.

My choice of weapon in dealing with minutemen would probably be my Fal and then the Mossberg 590. Oh Thats not what you meant.

I'd have to go with my Mosin Nagant 91/30--it's the only gun I've got right now.

Marlin 1894 in .44 Mag. Sure it only holds 10 rounds, and reloading is slowish. The gun is very accurate (XS halo sights) out to about 200 yards, 100% reliable, perfect balance of power to recoil for a lever gun, very compact in all 3 dimensions, snagless, ammo is light, great close range knockdown power... I could go on. It was the assault rifle of the old west.
