.30-40 Krag. I used it to shoot the first deer that I ever killed with a handload.
It's good to know I'm not the only one left, still shooting it..357 Herrett
I'm surprised how many people has never heard of this one! It's my favoriteIn over 40 years I have never seen anyone else carrying a .264 Winchester Magnum except my brother in law and I sold him the one he used.
You bet there was. That cottage industry thrived well into the '60s. Bigfoot Wallace, my custom '03 Springfield in .35 Brown-Whelen, was built in the late '60s or early '70s by CW Fitch of Phoenix. It has the original barrel -- Fitch reamed it out to .35 caliber and re-rifled it. RF Sedgley was another famous gunsmith who turned out hundreds if not thousands of sporterized Springfields and other rifles. My 30-40 Krag was also Bubba'd well before the mid-70's when I picked it up. It also has the cocking piece peep sight. It also has an Alexander Henry fore end. I have seen a couple of others like it, and it makes me wonder if there was a cottage industry do this "sporterization" some time in the 20's or 30's.
