That was a great show.

Trigger? We don't need no stinkin' trigger! (Possibly fired by reading the user's brain waves.)
^^^^Myth busters did a segment on that weapon. Every time they tried to fire one it blew up.
They concluded that to win the fight Kirk's best bet was to give the cannon to the Gorn.
I don't know about "cool" -- but here's a tip-of-the-hat to old world technology in the future...
In the "Arena" episode of ST:TOS, Capt. Kirk fashioned himself a crude cannon, and concocted a mix of sulfur, saltpeter, and coal for propellant. He used raw diamonds as the projectiles.
Seen here drilling a touch-hole into a bamboo pipe he reinforced with cord.
With surprising realism for the day, the cannon "worked," but came close to killing Kirk also...

On family guy I love that all shotguns are pump shotguns, even when they break open, are double barreled, and fave exposed hammers. They also don’t have magazines but never run out of rounds.
They learned how to do that from Elmer Fudd.

Ya, the "Nemesis" era phaser rifle was just a tad more refined than the Original Series version-

For some reason, I'm partial to the N99 10mm pistol.
