Im thinking about getting a 1911 in 10mm i hate glocks so does anybody no who would make one in that caliber

I have a Dan Wesson Razorback. They don't make them anymore, but you might be able to find one used. I would dare to say they are of better quality than the Kimber.

Funny you should ask this question. I was out with my DW 10mm 1911 RZ and my Les Baer HWML 10mm today. After 700 rounds of 10mm I am a bit sore in the web but it was a great day.

I would tell you the RZ's are great guns and every time I shoot mine I always wonder why I don't shoot it more often. The RZ's can be head pretty reasoanbly and they are nicely made and well setup. Mine is one of the original 150 and is every accurate.

My Les Baer HeavyWeight Monolith is my favorite though. Why would it not be? One of a kind, 1.5" guarantee gun that was custom made to my specs after discussions with Mr. Baer on whow I should do it. There are 10mm Baer's floating around though, so if you can find a PII that would be the way to go.

Well, production models would include Kimbers, Dan Wessons and Colts.

Colt's 10mm Delta Elite.

I have #101 of the original batch and I agree completely. Great guns and worth shopping around for. Mine has been completely reliable since new.

Well I bought the dreaded Glock 20. Would I rather have a 10mm 1911? Yes! Could I afford a 10mm 1911? No! So I ended up with some plastic gun that shoots 10mm...
...and it's still fun as heck!

My Dan Wesson Razorback is #94 of the original 150. I should shoot it more often. If you want to shoot a lot of 10mm I suggest that you reload! You can use your .40 S&W dies. My problem is I shoot my fortys too much and hate to readjust the dies for the 10mm. Some day I will buy another set of dies.

Try to find a used Dan Wesson. Sorry but mine will never be for sale:neener:

The 10mm world is not exclusively divided between Glocks and 1911's. There are a small number of other choices. Not trying to take the thread off-topic, just making sure you (OP) knew that being a Glockophobe doesn't mean you have to get a 1911. But there are sure some cool 10mm 1911's in this thread!

There was a recent GREAT thread here about (in part) how best to get the 1911 to deal with an operating pressure almost 80% higher than it was designed to handle.

Bottom line: if I got a Delta, it would go straight to a gunsmith. I'd ask him whether the barrel and slide locking lugs were engaging properly, whether the barrel was being stopped by the frame or the link, and what the best way to handle the slide's rearward motion would be: original double-spring recoil spring or single, mainspring weight, firing-pin stop's lower contour, etc.

How do you keep those looking so fresh after '700'. Most of what I shot from new looks pretty used after 400 to 500 mark. Please do tell.

A Smith & Wesson 1006 is a very good 10mm. It is a bit heavy but tough as hell and will feed most any ammo. I should have kept mine but foolishly sold it trying to consolidate my calibers.

Absolutely agree. The S&W 10mm are the proverbial tanks among 10mm guns.

I have both the S&W 1006 and 1076 models. After many years and many thousands of rds theu each, both still run perfectly. I've really done nothing more than regular cleaning and a few XP recoil spring changes (Wolff's). Mag springs are also XPs and either gun has yet to hiccup.

S&W 1006.

That said, there also a lot of my lovin' going on with my ...

With the Glocks, S&Ws or a properly set-up 1911, it's hard to lose on a 10mm pistol. ;)

I am in the process of saving up for an EAA "Match" in 10mm,that is a well made gun and somewhat similar to the 1911(at least in the hands it points and feel like one).

I have the eaa in 10mm, full size and compact, also have the glock 20, and have a backordered kimber coming in 10mm. Good luck.

I think as long as your 1911 10mm has the proper recoil spring, heavyvslide and possibly a shock buff you will not have any issues.

For the price of the Delta's I have seen recently I would do my best to find the DW RZ. It might be a little more, but I would have more confidence in it. The Delta's had some frame cracking issue and locking problems. I have never heard a bad word about the DWs. I wish I could afford one.

Other 10mm guns...

S&W 1000 series... These are tanks and easy to shoot. But have gone up in price and they dont make them anymore so buying used is the only option. Did I mention that you should plan on buying a really good holster and belt... these things are heavy.

EAA / Tanfoglio guns. I had a compact model with the Miracle Brushed Nickel finish that I liked alot but since I am a lefty, the single side safety was an issue for me. It was a fun range gun.

Glock 20... I know you said you dont like Glocks... I dont either. But I have owned three G20s. The G20 is in my opinion the best overall value in a 10mm gun. You get unbeatable reliability. You get accessories in abundance. It will handle light to uber power loads handily. You can add Match barrels for hunting purposes cheap and easy. And carrying 15+1rds of 10mm is some bad mojo. I love the G20 and is prob the best gun Glock produces.

I am sorry to say that I just sold my last 10mm, an OD Green frame G20 that was a safe queen. When I lived in Ga, the G20s were very perfect for me since I was usually backpacking, hunting or traveling through the N. Ga mountains where I think the 10mm round is really at home. But since moving here to NJ, the round has lost it relevance for me. Over-Penetration is an issue here and I dont have to many bears or wild pigs here in SJ, neither of which that could not be dealt with by using another caliber.

If I ever go out west or south again, I would easily go find another G20.
