Long slide 10mm... now there's an idea. I wonder if my AMT hardballer Long Slide would hold up to the conversion - probably best not to find out the answer to that one, eh?

The Longslide was AMT's very best 1911. It certainly has the strength for 10mm, but I think I'd keep it pristine. Most of their 1911s suffered from reliability issues due to galling. Mine, a Govt. Model was one of the very worst. Wish I had it back now though, since I have time to make it right.
I really only bought mine due to "jonesing" for one since James Caan used one (long slide though not an AMT) in the movie Thief. I like playing with mine from time to time but the sound it makes in just hand cycling it is not confidence inspiring. It has a loose fit frame to slide and oddly sounds as though it has dry run bearings. Not horrible or destructive sounding - just weird. Nice to hear of your confidence in the Longslide though. Maybe I'll grease the hell outa her and finally shoot it - been nearly 15 years. Now that I think about it, my stainless longslide sounds very much like my stainless .45 backup so maybe it's just their stainless specific sounds.
