Sometimes I carry a 1911 with a 4-inch barrel. I've been thinking about getting a Colt's 1911 Commander in 9mm. Anyone else use these for cc, or is it mostly a fun range gun?
Jim, the Combat Commander was introduced because so many people had the same complaint about the original lightweight Commander. It is the same as the lightweight version but with a steel frame to better handle the recoil of a .45 ACP.My maximum size carry gun is a Commander - original lightweight.
Mine is a .45 and the recoil has become oppressive such that I don't shoot it with anything but barely Major power factor ammo.
It would be nicer if it were a 9mm, and I have looked at the new run of Commanders and the SA RO Champion.

That sums it up nicely!!!Quote:
There are so many good micro 9mm handguns on the market whose manual of arms is superior for cc I wonder why anyone would want a clunky 1911 type.
Because some of us are just as smart as a farm boy in the 1930's with a seventh grade education. Apparently, some recent handgun users do not feel themselves up to that standard.
