The .38 and .30-30 will do, if you're only going to have one centerfire rifle and handgun. I'd have a .22 as similar to each of the centerfires as possible, and I like to hunt birds with my Brittany, so a 20 gauge side-by-side would round out my absolute minimum guns. Five.
What I actually have in arm's reach at the moment? A compact 9mm with night sights, and my 642 .38 that was in my pocket until I started playing guitar (Taylor 314) while waiting for the wife to come to bed. Back pocket has a Spyderco Delica, VG-10 and stainless handle. I am in the bedroom, so the safe is in the corner, and there is a list of calibers in there. Including a Marlin .30-30. But the rifle that is actually at the front and ready to go is a 5.56.
