To quote Jim March's motorcycle thread....

"locked up as solid as a gungrabber's brainpan."

Being the proud owner of a Tokyo Marui M733 (AR family, shortbarrelled pre-cursor to the M4 if anyone didn't know) , which the Classic Army gun linked to shares the mechbox/guts design with, there is NO way in hell to turn the thing into a functional weapon without so much work you could actually build a new lower from scratch and come out WAY ahead. You could maybe just maybe make a single shot .22, but it would still take alot of work and be very dangerous.

The idea that you could take a real upper and slap it on and have a functioning AR15 is totally ridiculous. Completely assine crap that this guy is spewing... Tell him yeah it looks real, but it's a toy, moron... And tell him the vast gun industry conspiracy talk is about the looniest crap I've heard all month. If he knew ANYTHING about either guns or airsoft, he'd know what a freakin' idiot he sounds like. Typical antigunner garbage, carry on and on about something they know little to more likely absolutely nothing about...

Would you even be able to remove the upper from the lower on this? I wasn't aware that Airsoft AR-15s could be taken apart like that.
The slide from my KSC Beretta 92 fits on my real Beretta 96 but first of all it's plastic and has a completely different mechanism.

Yes, in order to get at the internals you open it up by removing the rear pin and pivoting the upper forward like the real one, and you can remove the front pin and pull the upper off (I believe there are a few little things still connecting the two that you have to remove as well, can't recall been awhile since I upgraded mine and had it apart). Now I doubt a real upper would just swap over on the airsoft lower anyway, probably not perfect specs wise...

With a good machine shop, (lathes, mills, shears press brakes, hand brakes, bending rolls, ironworkers, grinders) I could convert my Kirby Vacuum cleaner to a fully automatic rifle or maybe my wifes blender.:D

If the specs of the Airsoft gun are close enough to the specs of an AR15, it CAN be converted. Here is a detailed breakdown of the process:

  1. Replace the entire upper with a "real deal" upper. The Airsoft barrel won't stand up to this 3100fps conversion.
  2. Replace the buttstock and pistol grip with complete assemblies from a real AR. This includes the buffer assembly inside the buttstock.
  3. Replace the Airsoft mags with USGI 30-round magazines. True, they only hold 1/10 as many rounds, but the 6mm Airsoft mags won't hold the 5.56mm catridges. That .44mm is a big enough difference to make the mags completely incompatible.
  4. Lastly, and THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP, go down to your local FFL and procure an AR15 lower with internals. Without this, the conversion won't work. This step is VERY IMPORTANT!
    [/list=1]

Do not spread these instructions around. They should be kept within our group so that antis don't find out how easy it is to convert toys into real guns.

Oh yeah, for all the people that mentioned that it would be easier to make guns out of other materials or objects, you forgot one thing:

It just wouldn't look as scary, and that's the thing that they seem to be the most worried about.

dave3006 - Your coworker sounds like he may have spent too much time watching "The A-Team" or "MacGyver".

Frankly, if anyone is bright and skilled enough to convert an Airsoft into a fully functioning firearm and not blow themselves or others up in the process, they should be awarded a medal and given a job.

Whenever I hear one of these little jems of info I don't even bother to refute it.... I just fall to the floor it fits of laughter, always gets the point across.

Obviously the "office idiot" has never fired a real weapon. There are way to many people that "have all the facts", and they "read it in print or heard it on the news so it must be true".
All we can do is to try and educate them on the real facts. But many of them will not listen.
I have some friends whose 14 year old has both the car-15 and Beretta airsoft guns. Just last week I took him shooting with my car-15 and Beretta. He sure knows the difference between them. But he's a smart kid and has been around real guns all his life.
Whenever possible, take these know it alls out shooting, be responsible while doing so, and explaine as much as possible to them about the realities of firearms. I've managed to convert a few in my life.
For the ones who refuse to listen to your reasonable arguments, forget them. They're lost causes.
And if an airsoft car-15 can shoot a 223 round without blowing up ( not to mention blowing away your hands and face ) I'll eat the damn thing!!!

Some of the gf's work mates were wanting to practice shooting out on our land (we live in the middle of no where)

He was ok, no big safety infractions. HER on the other hand - i wanted to go up and slap her! That muzzle had legs man... =(

hate that... because its just a stupid thing....

worse - he didn't say anything.... =(

Tell him all he needs to do is get a jet engine, and mount it on this baby and he'll have his own imperial speeder bike, too.

Come in tomorrow and look shocked and upset. Tell him you looked it up on the internet and found out that a guy (Carbine Williams to be exact) made a fully functional military rifle out of a truck axle, using nothing but the tools he scrounged in the shop of the prison where he was incarcerated! Tell him we;ve got to figure out how to ban truck axles, files and hacksaws! :what:

WOOOT ding ding ding ding for MeekandMild!

I think if there is a winner of a comment... thats the one...

I still think i come in 2nd when i look at the idiot and say :::bonks idiot on the head::: "Its an AIR gun" rofl

J/Tharg!
