Anyone build a 6BR......

I am looking at building either a six dasher or a 6GT. And I probably will use a Zermatt action. So no I haven’t, But, I am interested in following this thread, since I am looking at something similar.

What are you wanting to do with the rifle? “Horses for courses,” or “tools for tasks,” the 6BR I would use for my sport is different than @South Prairie Jim would use for his.

Personally, I like the added case capacity of a 6 Dasher over the BR - I can either run extra speed, OR run the same speed at a lower pressure (and I do the latter most often). But either or both of these rifles could just as easily be chambered in straight 6BR.

My two Dashers are built for PRS competition, meant to launch Berger 105 Hybrids:

• Both with Defiance Machine actions, one a Deviant and the other a Ruckus

• Both with Manners sticks with Mini chassis’, one a T4A and the other a Compact Gen2

• Both with TriggerTech Diamond triggers, one a flat shoe at 6oz and the other a curved shoe at 14oz

• Both with Area419 Arcalock rails, one a Universal and the other a tunable weighted rail

• Both have 26” barrels with 7.5” twists, one a Proof Research Competition Contour and the other a Bartlein M24

• Both have American Precision Arms Little Bastard muzzle brakes, one a Gen 3 and the other a Gen 2

• One has Vortex/Seekins rings on a Kahles K525i 5-25x56mm with SKMR3 reticle and the other has a Nightforce NX8 2.5-20x50mm with Mil-XT reticle

• Both have lead added to the forend to move the balance point (without bipod) to ~4-5” ahead of the front action screw, one rifle is built to be lighter than the other at 17.6lbs and the other at 21.2lbs

• I maintain segregation of brass between the two by using Alpha Dasher brass in the Ruckus and hydro formed Lapua 6BR brass in the Deviant

• Varget is king for Dasher case (if you’re building a straight 6BR, you could also try H4895 and be pleased)

That’s actually what I am doing with my two Dashers as well, although I fireformed…..

As posted, what do you want to do with it. You asked a complicated question without giving us anything to go on.

If you did, give me the details on your build. Action and barrel brand, barrel length and twist, stock, etc.....
This is all he asked, not sure what’s complicated about it ?
He didn’t ask what he should build although that may be the intent. ( I suppose that’s what I assumed as well)

I just posted in another thread that I went with a 243 Winchester when the 6mm bug bit me. I seriously considered a 6BR. If I were to build another 6mm:

Actions;
If for varmints a Remington 700 action
if for targets a Bat or Stolle action

Stocks
Remington 700 action --- HS Precision/Remington
Custom action--- McMillan or Manners

Barrel
Kreiger 1-8 (because I've never had a bad one) 1-8 twist

Trigger --- Jewell (I have 2 spares) or a B&A (always wanted to try one)

Rings and Bases --- Badger--- I have used Ken Farrell bases and Leupold MK1V rings

Scope --- Probably Nightforce (partly because of their toughness and partly for their huge range of adjustment)

This is not a dream or idle wishfulness. I have used these exact components on several builds.

I guess I failed to mention - I’ve been planning a 3rd Dasher to begin soon, built in part for my wife, but also for myself because I have wanted an “Oklahoma rifle” for a while. I just won the Foundation stock this wknd, so the build has officially begun:

• Impact Precision 737R
• Foundation Genesis 2
• Hawkins M5 DBM
• AIAW mags
• Bartlein 26” MTU 1:7.5”
• ACE Brake
• ATS Tuner
• TriggerTech Diamond Flat Shoe
• Spuhr 1pc mount
• Nightforce ATACR 7-35x56 Mil-XT

My curiosity had been piqued. What, pray tell, is an "Oklahoma rifle"?

For folks less familiar, pictured here, second from our left is the 6BR, and to its right are two of its offspring, improved versions called the 6 BRA (BR Ackley Improved) and the 6 Dasher. There are a handful of other Improved 6 BR variants, 6 BRI, BRD, and others, and there are 20, 22, 6.5, 7, and 30cal versions, but they all stem from this same little case.

An Impact action in a Foundation stock; so named for the fact both companies are located together within ~15 miles of eachother in Oklahoma, and for the fact this particular combination was used by the winningest group of shooters in the entire PRS which also happened to be from Oklahoma, and for the fact these particular actions happen to run better than any others in the hateful, wind-borne moon dust which plagues Oklahoma…

6BR is an awesome little cartridge. I still don't understand why it hasn't become more mainstream.

Mine came along in a trade. 28" heavy (I believe MTU profile) barrel, on a trued Remington action. The first 3 shots out of it went into .28", and I had done zero load development.

I've had success with Varget, 8208XBR, and Reloder 15 in it.

Somebody would have to put it up for SAAMI standardization, and between Remington changing hands a few times since its inception and the fact Norma doesn’t appear to have much interest in closing it, I don’t think that will ever happen.

Which is fine by me - we don’t have to hear all of the ignorant raving online about how the “new” 6BR doesn’t do as much as what 243win has done for years… and the guys who really wanna do what the 6 BR does have ready access to it, in the way they need it.
