As jmorris mentioned, the proper scope often allows you to see in dark conditions. The negative is searching for a downed animal can be exceedingly difficult if it ran very far after being shot. Flashlights only help so much. I’ve spent hours in the dark searching for animals that would have quickly been located if there was some daylight.
 
Midway has a vortex viper hs 2.5-10 ×44, 30mm tube, on sale foe 259.00. Scope retails nearly double the sale price. It's lower end of viper line but higher than the diamondback line. It'd be a good overall do it all scope.
