Bare shelf at Wal-Mart

The WallMart in Sturgis Mi. has all kinds of ammo and no shortage of .22 ammo, in fact they even had the virtually non existent Henry .22 Lever Action.

Went to Cabelas in Springfield, OR and Wally World today in Salem, OR both places had stocked up shelfs with ammo. At Cabelas they were full of all reloading supplies. Dont get me wrong, I would have to be hard up to buy anything from them in that department. Expensive as heck, then again I'll probably never buy most reloading components or anything outside of online shopping. If I could grocery shop online I would.

My Walmart about 30 miles SE of me is always out of Canadian Mist. :cuss: So I go to the one 30 miles NE of me.

They both have plenty of ammo. Except there was a guy in there a couple weeks ago having trouble finding 16 gauge. :what: Is the .gov buying all of that too?

The government is purposely buying all the ammo they can to keep it out of our hands. I was listening to the radio a few days ago , and this was reported on.
I have no reason to doubt it, as it seems to be our elected officials agenda, to stop us from having the right to keep and bare arms. No ammo, our rifles become clubs. :banghead:
Hurry and put on your tinfoil hat before it's too late!

Really though, do you know what kind of prices the government buys ammo for? And you think they're really going to take the time to buy it at retail prices at Walmart? Get real.

I learned my lesson the last time....i'm good but still pick up what I can here and there. Probably wouldn't hurt to emphasize here for awhile just in case. I can afford it this time of year for a little while.

Local pricing can be an issue but the real issue is nobody on my area stocks anything. I have not been to a local gun store in years. Easier to shop on line in the comfort of my skivies.

Groceries on line might be interesting. We shop at several stores to get the brands/items we want. Damn inventory tax.

Brownell's started it!

Until recently, I pretty much bought what I wanted to shoot at the range next week from one of three Houston Walmarts. I might have a couple boxes of WWB .45acp 100-rd value packs, and a couple boxes of 100 American Eagle in 5.56 but no massive stores.

Then came Brownell's warning about a coming shortage, followed by Tom Gresham reporting that DHS had bought the equivalent of 3 months production of Lake City. I started seeing OUT OF STOCK at online stores for .45 and 5.56. My three regular Walmarts increased their 100rd .45 230gr WWB from 31.97 to 36.97--a 16% increase. Then, they started not having it at all. All three were out. One manager told me he orders but receives only a couple boxes, and sometimes the store employees buy that before it hits the shelves. Same with 5.56.

Online out of stock, rising prices. Finally, the Repubs continue shooting themselves in the foot (no pun intended), and it looks more and more like Obama could be reelected, after which he puts his war on guns and ammo into high gear. If he gets to appoint just one justice to the Supreme Court during his next for years, we are in deep trouble for 25 years.

So, I am adding the the shortage problem. I'm up to just over 2,000 rounds of 5.56 and 1,200 rounds of .45acp target stuff and a hundred JHP (plus what's in the 1911 and XDm mags). Last 5.56 was $329 for Federal xm193 in 1000 bulk from Natches Shooter Supplies, which was about 10% higher than just a month ago. I'll probably hold at these levels and from now on just shoot what I buy.

There is no excuse for anyone who has been shooting more than 44 rounds a year (that leaves 6 for the .38spl revolver) since 2008.

If you're panicking at this point, you're just enabling gouging.
Stop it.

If you didn't live through the stupidity-induced shortage of 2008/9, now you know better.
Stop it.

It's impossible to see what ammo my local Wally has.
They have it under the Sporting Goods counter.

The only ammo on the shelves is .22 & several calibers of shotguns.
Lotsa 12, a little 20, a little 410 & very little 16,

Dave, the thing that is different this time is that it will be Obama's 2nd term. He doesn't have to worry about reelection, so he can go after guns and ammo like he has wanted to all along, the Constitution be damned. And you can bet he will, using the death of his adopted son Trayvon as his poster child.

Given Obama's skill at bypassing the Congress, and publicly criticizing the Supreme Court, there is little to stop serial-numbered ammo, microchip ammo, federal (not to be confused with Federal) tax on ammunition, etc. Yes, I may be overreacting, and if that contributes to higher prices, I apologize to the rest of you, and I'll plan now for my April 2013 post where I say, "Man, that BigFatDave was right! I wish I had listened to him, as now I'm stuck with all this expensive ammo."

April 2013. This thread should be up to about page 95 by then.

I worked the Sporting Goods counter at Wal-Mart in the late 80s-early 90s. If the Department Manager is a shooter, everything in the order book gets ordered.

If the Department Manager is a non-shooter, the shelves will stay empty for months. I think most of the local stores in DFW have finally realized that if they order ammo and keep the shelves stocked, it will sell.

Just my .02,
LeonCarr

I am glad I reload. I have not purchased or looked for ammo in a year now. This thread got me to look the other day. Our Walmart had a fairly decent amount of ammo. I have about 6000 SPP and 6000 LPP on the shelf. With about 5-6lbs of powder. Next week I will buy another 8lb of W231, 4lb of WST, and 1000 LPP and SPP. It has been my goal to buy a couple K of primers every time I get paid, and either bullets or powder. I just paid off my bass boat in January, so I put a little back for a rainy day and spend the rest of components. At this rate my LGS doesn't run out and I'm slowly but Shurly stocking up. With what I have loaded and what's on the shelf to load my wife and I can continue to shoot 100 rnds each week in all three calibers.

I went to the local WM just to look tonight and the shelves were full up. But so were the prices. Since I reload almost everything centerfire all I buy there is the .22 ammo and there sure was a LOT of it on the shelves but that is probably due to the prices being about $3 more than it was last time (2 months ago) for the 500+ bulk packs. I guess it is time to mail order the .22 in as well so I can still shoot for a reasonable cost.:)

Stopped in at my small local Walmart tonite, shelves were stocked better than normal. Although unless packaging has changed. They seemed to have started carrying new brands also.

were're doomed .... run for it... no ammo a wally world

Our Walmart is completely stocked-up with ammo and rifles. They even had a Mini-14.
Ammo is like potato chips...they will make more.

This thread makes no sense. There is ammo everywhere at the walmarts I've been to. I think you just need to go to another walmart. Yep, Obama is not a gun owners best option, but either is Romney, there really will be no other choice, anti gun liberal or anti gun conservative. That is what I'm gathering from this thread, it more political than anything. You won't see much difference regardless. Both are anti gun, Obama care gs Romney care. Same ol same ol. Buy what you need at a different Sally world. There is no scare yet there may be, but it ain't here yet.

The only scare I've seen is on a couple internet forums. The shelves are stocked here, and I have no trouble finding reloading components online.

Maybe in a couple months. *shrug*

They're trying real hard. Now they're saying in a few months primers are going to be hard to come by. They "think" they're having trouble ordering them now. The only thing my Wal-Mart doesn't have is .308 ammo. But they never do for some reason.
