I think it would only take a few seconds of time to check their records to see if the OP (or anyone) bought an upper from them. If he isn't in their system, then he bought a blem or an item through a distributor.
But think about this for a minute. If they rely on the end user to provide records and they don't have a way of checking, then anyone could fake a receipt and get a new upper, barrel, etc., from them. That is a crazy way to run a business.
