My Caldwell chrony has been pristine for the better part of a decade now.

Of course, that may be largely because I pretty much exclusively use it with rifles. When there's a scope involved, I like to level it so can just see the arch of the screen at the top of my field of view. Rods and screens are cheap and easy to replace; electronics, far less so.

I rarely chrony pistol loads, as the only ones I make myself are bulk training loads, and all that matters is function and point of impact.

For rifle work, the chrony is indispensable. Trying to reverse-engineer an MV from observed drops at range and advertised BC can be time consuming and frustrating, especially if the advertised BC is...optimistic. And a load that groups well at 100-200yds can go all to pieces at range if you didn't have consistent starting velocities.

My ProChrono Digital is 17yrs old with GSW’s yet. Doesn’t see much use these days since I have a Magnetospeed V3 and a LabRadar. My “back up” unit did take an arrow to the face several years ago when a buddy was using my shop to restring and paper tune his bow, but such was kinda the reason I had a backup unit…

But I suppose the fact I own 3 chronographs totaling over $1000 in spending probably suggests how valuable I find them.

NICE! I shot my chrono and the guy next to me laughed! what a jerk!

Why? I still have my first chrono and haven't even come close to hitting the chrono.
I've shot TWO of them so far.... LOL
This being said, will NOT go without one! You don't need anything ultra fancy.

The first one was a Pro Chrono, and the second one was a Caldwell.
Both were entry level models. Both worked just fine. The Caldwell can be wired to your phone through a earphone jack, and it will record the shot data. Just have to download their app and enable the program to use the mic/headphone jack. That, and remember to clear/enable the program each shot string.

Good Luck!

I have the econo Caldwell also......works just fine for me......
I do have a suggestion for everyone.........if you see the rods, screens, main box, etc. in your sight picture............DON'T pull the trigger....!......that may help with not shooting the chrono.....:neener:
