My Caldwell chrony has been pristine for the better part of a decade now.
Of course, that may be largely because I pretty much exclusively use it with rifles. When there's a scope involved, I like to level it so can just see the arch of the screen at the top of my field of view. Rods and screens are cheap and easy to replace; electronics, far less so.
I rarely chrony pistol loads, as the only ones I make myself are bulk training loads, and all that matters is function and point of impact.
For rifle work, the chrony is indispensable. Trying to reverse-engineer an MV from observed drops at range and advertised BC can be time consuming and frustrating, especially if the advertised BC is...optimistic. And a load that groups well at 100-200yds can go all to pieces at range if you didn't have consistent starting velocities.
