Dang it, I missed it! And yes, good info, the lower the score a state gets with the Brady Bunch, the better! Give me a state with a zero!

File Not Found -- they removed it.

Did anyone see where Maine fell this year? Last year we were Number One!

Here is the list
t=tied, then rank then name then # of points

What the heck?! Maine somehow racked up 12 whole points this year, and falls into the middle of the pack at 21! We need a new coach!

Maybe it was a different gorup that ranked Maine "worst" for gun control last year.

pa is number 10 but the laws are ok here. at least IMO. however, i would like to change some things.

Very nice! Twenty-four states score less than 10 out of 100 points on their perverse scale.

I think the "face validity" of the Brady rankings is pretty good. You just need to reverse the polarity ;) -- it's like looking at America through a clear, but upside-down, funhouse lens.

If you look at the two dozen states that Brady gives single-digit scores, most people would agree, yep, those are the best states to live in for firearms freedom.

Louisiana tied for last, outstanding! :D

I wonder what the Brady Campaign rated Louisiana during the Katrina confiscations?

Go Big Red!!! Indiana holding tough with a tie on 33 with 8 points and only 5 groups of tied states below us.

I think we gain some points (from the Brady perspective) because the Indiana State Police hang on to firearms sale records for a period of time before they destroy them. It is not terribly long but there is a period of time there where the keep them.

We don't probably score some points because we don't have open carry either...our "Handgun License" applies equally to the carry of a handgun anywhere outside the home or private property, concealed or open.

Other than that, Indiana is good place to be if you enjoy exercising your Second Amendment rights.

Damn! Alabama is ranked a 15??!!

I would have thought gun laws here were loose as a goose.

We got work to do boys.

Hey, I feel pretty good being here in Florida and only getting 6 points! Now we just need to keep on working our way down to 0 :D

Boy, you just can't make this stuff up - how stupid can they get?

Their motto is "Sensible Gun Laws Save Lives".

So let's see how well their "life-saving" measures fared, shall we?

California, #1 on the list of safest states. Yes, somehow, #14 out of 50 states (top 28%) on the list of violent crime rates:

Massachusetts: Tied for 3rd on the safest list. Yet #20 (top 40%) in violent crime rates.

Maryland: #5 on the safest list. Yet #8 (top 16%) in violent crime rates.

New York: #6 on the safest list. Yet #22 (top 44%) in violent crime rates.

Illinois: #9 on the safest list. Yet #13 (top 26%) in violent crime rates.

Pennsylvania: #10 on the safest list. Yet #21 (top 42%) in violent crime rates.

Delaware: Tied for #11 on the safest list. Yet #7 (top 14%) in violent crime rates.

North Carolina: #13 on the safest list. Yet #18 (top 36%) in violent crime rates.

Now let's go to the other end of the spectrum:

Kentucky: Tied for #48 on the "un"-safest list. Yet #40 (bottom 20%) in violent crime rates.

West Virginia: Tied for #43 on the "un"-safest list. Yet #39 (bottom 22%) in violent crime rates.

Utah: Tied for #43 on the "un"-safest list. Yet #45 (bottom 10%) in violent crime rates.

Kentucky: Tied for #48 on the "un"-safest list. Yet #40 (bottom 20%) in violent crime rates.

North Dakota: Tied for #43 on the "un"-safest list. Yet #49 (bottom 2%) in violent crime rates.

South Dakota: Tied for #36 on the "un"-safest list. Yet #46 (bottom 8%) in violent crime rates.

Idaho: Tied for #36 on the "un"-safest list. Yet #42 (bottom 16%) in violent crime rates.

Thanks Brady Bunch, for making our point! :)

Top 9 states with best brady score, plus 9 states with lowest brady score. Score in ( ) represents ranking based on rank for most violent crime. If gun control works, the 'top 10' for gun control should be the 'bottom 10' for violence...or close to it.

http://www.census.gov/statab/ranks/rank21.html

I was originally going to do 5, but too many ties in the brady scoring system, 10 didn't work out well either, however top 9 did, and is very close to top 10 without letting too many ties skew it.

Including a 3rd number, poverty ranking (low = poverty) in {}
If poverty is a good predictor of violent crime, the () number should be close to the {} number

Just FYI, the worst state for violence is Brady ranked 27 (middle of the road), South Carolina, while 2nd worst for violence, Florida, has relatively loose gun laws with a score of 36. However, D.C. is twice as bad as South Carolina, and they'd have a Brady rank of 1 if they were included {and D.C. ranks 2 in poverty, with the 2 violent states of South Carolina and Florida being 13 and 21}

North Dakota, safest, made Brady's list of worst 10, while Maine, 2nd safest hit right in the middle of the Brady list.

{regarding poverty, the two least poverty stricken states are New Hampshire and Minnesota, both being right in the middle as far as gun control, and both scoring quite well in low violence with a 47 and a 38

High Gun Control top 10 has 2 very safe (being generous with Hawaii's 39) while Low Gun Control has 3.5 very safe (giving a nod to Virgina's 36)

High Gun Control has 3 badly unsafe (treating the 11 the same as I did the 39) while Low Gun Control has 2.5 badly unsafe (treating that 14 as I did the 36)

clearly with that spread of numbers, it is SOMETHING ELSE UNRELATED TO FIREARMS that seems to be the key to predicting violence. Poverty? Ethnic Make-up? Single Parent Families? School Funding? Most likely some combination of factors

Including a 3rd number, poverty rate, in {} Obviously, it doesn't fair much better, with poor, violent Louisiana, and almost as poor but much safer Mississippi both with very low rates of gun control.

I probably should have started with the 9 most violent and 9 least violent, the placed brady rank and poverty rank next to them. Maybe someone else can run those numbers.
