I just got this in my University E-mail. It is kind of gun related in that you CANNOT carry guns on college Campuses. So because of this another person had to be sexually assaulted. It really annoys me. What annoys me even more is this happened in IDAHO!!! Where Concealed and Open carry is Ok but Campuses you can't carry.

Here is that e-mail that I got.

Crime Alert

On Tuesday, May 1, 2007, at approximately 9:40 p.m., at the Freeman Park
gravel parking lot near the entrance to Science Center Drive at
University Place, (Idaho State University, Idaho Falls Campus) a female reported that she was sexually assaulted by two males of unknown description. The incident is being investigated by
the Idaho Falls Police Department. There are no suspects thus far.

If you have any information that might assist the Idaho Falls Police in
this investigation please contact the Idaho Falls police at 529-1200 or
Public Safety at 282-2515.

Safety Tips:

Take extra care in being aware of your surroundings.
Park your vehicle in a lighted area when ever possible.
Walk together in a group when possible.
Report any suspicious activity to Public Safety.
Call for a safety escort, 282-2515

Under these the final statement is;

The university will not attempt to regulate weapons that are stored in vehicles unless their storage becomes a safety concern. Such situations will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

That sure helps you walking to and from your vehicle at night in the dark.

Fortunately, in Idaho, anyone who is 21 years or older, and not forbidden by law to own firearms, can get a CCW license.

"Concealed," means just that. Concealed.

I think I'd rather carry deep-concealed and take the small chance on getting caught than getting raped, beaten, knifed or killed.
If the entrances have metal detectors then you're screwed but in a college/university setting where studends are going from building to building all day long it'd be impossible to screen students using metal detectors. The line-up at every entrance would be very time consuming.

I am an alumni if U of Idaho (up north in Moscow) and both I and several of my friends had ccw while at school and would occasionally carry to class (espcially night classes). I was against university policy, and if we had been caught, there was a good chance that we would have been expelled. We knew and accepted the risks, and decided to carry anyways. Now I am not trying to advocate that people break the law, or violate their school's policies (especially because in these days you might face criminal charges for "terroristic behaivior" or some nonsense), I am simply stating that you can carry on campus if you are mindful and accept all the risks and consequences that go with it.

We've had 2 armed home invasions in the past 2 weeks here on campus. It actually happens fairly often, but never gets more than a short blurb on the campus website, and the victims are always defenseless.

Should note that Idaho Attourney General Lawrence Wasden does not recognize the "gun free schools" as applying to colleges, only K-12. It is the colleges themselves that make the policy. Wasden will not prosecute criminally students who carry legally on college campuses.

I would love Idaho State LAW to be amended that a CCW would have all rights and priveleges while on college campus. I'm a college student as well, but at a different campus.

Forward it to your parents, and have your father or mother ask them if their "safety escorts" are armed. If not, ask why.

at my school the safety escort was escorting someone and they both got robbed at gunpoint....good thing we have those escorts

We actually had armed robberies inside the dorms where I went to school as well as on the edge of campus. These kind of things were unheard of off campus. So this is even more of a reason to actually carry on campus if you can.

Our safety escorts are merely members of campus public safety. They're mostly students with uniforms, nothing more. I think they might carry flashlights.

I've always thought that unfortunately one day some UD Police officer, unarmed because of my schools policy, was going to respond to a call and end up getting shot. I hope to god that never happens.

buy a taser. Not only can it help you out in a bad situation, it's also good fun!

I remember what it was like in college, no money always hungry. A pound of Bacon is cheap and a taser produces quite a bit of heat so you could just use it to make some breakfast during lecture classes.

You could also use it as a cigarette lighter, fireplace or candle starter, arc welder. The list goes on and on.

Carry something other than a gun, that's my suggestion. Always know where your exits are, and never sit with your back to a window.
