Dicks Sporting goods!

In Ohio they don't sell handguns.

Their customer service is positively Soviet in its disdain.

There's no reason for me to go there as long as Fin, Feather and Fur and Gander Mountain exist... and not much even if they didn't.

I have not been in for several years - they used to have 9mm ammo on sale buy one case and get second one 1/2 off - so pretty good deal for UMC ammo.

Bought two cases and they took 1/2 off the total - I said whoa that should be 1/4 off the total the checker called the manger over and he said no that's right 1/2 off - OK - they stopped offering the deal after a while but they did it the same way every time 1/2 on the total.

My understanding is that Dicks issues some political statements and cancelled existing orders in some cases where the order was already in the store.

My recollection is that CTD had a brief pause in taking new orders until they could catch up.

I don't see anything similar between the two situations.

Aparently some CTD raised their prices due to increased demand and then held guns to people's heads and forced to order :)

I went to Dick's once pre Sandy Hook looking for the CCI SV they were supposed to sell by the brick. Nothing on hand, hardly any .22 LR. I was down state on a training trip and would have been better off saving the gas money and ordering ammo from Grafs or Midway.

My first impression was that I don't ever need a second impression.

Cheaper than Dirt also price gouged hard during this last "banic." I saw one day how they were selling a single PMAG for $100. I stopped all interaction with them after that.

Never go to Dick's anymore, why go to a sporting goods store that doesn't carry sporting goods?

Cheaper than Dirt decided to stop selling guns.

Then they got backlash and switched back.

They also charged $99.99 for a simple 30 round aluminum AR magazine. I'm all for supply and demand, market setting the price, etc...but that specifically is just something I cannot support. I used to order from them as often as anybody else. I haven't since then. Oh well, their multiple warehouse shipping thing always seemed to stupid to have to deal with as a consumer anyway.

We have a Dick's across from an Academy. Dick's opened a couple years earlier...I have bought some fishing gear there on clearance (think gander mountain again) because they mean it when they say clearance...but my experiences at the gun counter let me understand that they named the store after its employees...ALL of my sporting goods business from big box retailers goes to academy. Better prices, nicer employees, more knowledge in the nice employees, and no political arguments to my knowledge.

I did not like Dick's even prior to SH, they sold my lady a tent that is not waterproof.

Seriously, when I read instructions it stated that the tent was "water resistant" but not waterproof. First and only time in over 40 years of camping that I got wet while camping. I had waterproofed the seams but not the cloth. The fabric of the tent leaked water, not the seams the actual fabric of the tent.

When you add to that their high prices, lousy selection and despicable actions post SH and you see why not only will I never go there again but I try to let others know of their behaviour.

"Dick's, their name says it all"

On the other hand, my Dick's had .22 ammo this summer when no one else did, plus it was priced fairly. They recently sold me an Old Town canoe for less than anyone in town or online.

Sell ammo cheap to make principled gun owners hypocrites, no thanks they're dead to me.
Wouldn't pee on em if they were on fire.

This. Same with Cheaper than Dirt. I've actually seen some really good deals through crawler sites like gunbot and wikiarms but will never spend a dime at either place again.

Of course companies can atone for their past misdeeds; an apology and promise never to do it again and a hefty contribution to the NRA-ILA might start to melt the ice on my wallet.

Double Bingo.
