I have a CMP Garand (SA Service Grade, S/N 19xxx...that's 1939 manufacture)
]
that the metal is really pristiine (95%+ finish, bright bore, little muzzle wear) but the wood leaves has something to be desired. It could clean up but there are multiple DEEP gouges from what looks like the rear sight adjustment knobs of other M1s it was laying in a crate with. The stock bears its arsenal refinsh cartouche from RRAD and I think it is a post-Korean stock as it is extremely thick in the wrist.
I got "permission" to buy an 03A3 for my birthday this year...we'll be stopping by the CMP North Store just prior to the July 4th weekend on our road trip from Chicago to Erie.
While I could wait unit Monday to call them and ask, I just ** have** to know now...does the CMP have stocks lying about that you can buy to restock your Garand? They don't liist them on their site. I was thinking about buying a Weinig or Boyds (yes I know all the stories about them), but I'd rather have an original if possible...but in good shape instead of like this. This is one of 7 or 8 DEEP gouges.
