sorry guys but honestly after thumbing through the better part of 30 post (im sure there are more) of iteotwawki and AWB looming stuff i figured i would change the pace a little.

have you ever bought parts to a gun you have yet to own or buy?

last week i bought:
-a nikon 4-18 scope (for my now owned 6.8 spc)
-a mosin stock (i dont even have plans to own one)
-a box of random gun parts, mostly marlin lever parts

2 months ago i came across a stack of 7.62x25 (1000 rounds) that i got off a gent in dickson tn for 175.00 :what:. price was so good i had to have it! now one of these days ill get me a gun for it and do me some shootin!

To funny. Yes I did last year. A case of 500 5.56 X193 for $150. A few PMAGs. A box of 10 .50 cal. And 4 boxs of 38 special. With that and more stuff I spent $750 on a order at SGAmmo. I did just buy a AR yesterday so I guess it still counts. ;)

I did that for the first time this week. i bought ten magazines for a glock 19 and ten more mags for a glock 23. I plan to buy a pair of each of those guns in the near future but wanted to make sure I had access to standard magazines...just in case they ban them.

I figure I can get the guns later.

Yep, usually in auction lots. Magazines, reloading dies, boxes of bullets, all kinds of stuff that happened to be in the box that included items that I actually wanted. Much of this was either used (eventually) or traded away.

Yes... I recently bought 4 magazines for a new pistol, before I got the pistol.

Before a new type of gun is acquired, I always buy a bit of ammo first.

Once I decide on whether to buy a P-64 or Makarov, a heap of 9x18 will be ordered in advance.
Why? Though this is unique, when I decided to buy my first Enfield in early '09, Samco quickly sold its very last cases of surplus .303 ammo (English, '43) the same month or so.

Rarely, and not in the past ten years. Back in the late 90's I got a good deal on a set of eight AK mags. I was planning to buy an AK at the time, and wanted to pick up the pre-ban magazines when I found a good deal on them (prices were only going up back then, thanks to the AWB). My tastes evolved, and I never did pick up the AK I was planning to buy, but I still have the mags, and still figure I'll eventually buy a rife for them.

But, no, I don't normally make a habit out of buying pieces/parts for guns I don't yet own.

I have more optics than I can use at this time. I've made purchases when I found prices "too good to pass up." That's about it. I don't think they'll go bad sitting in the closet and I'll find use for them one of these days, I imagine.

When I decided to get a pocket-pistol for deep-concealment, I debated on whether it would be in .32ACP or in .380. I settled on the .32 caliber with a particular model already in mind, but couldn't find one locally. I still went ahead and bought some ammunition, and kept checking around for the gun, looking into three different models. I finally had a shop order one (Kel-Tec P32) for me.
I wanted the ammo on hand so that, when the gun arrived, I could pick it up and head straight to the range to proof it, and that's what I did.
That's the only time I bought something for a gun I did not yet own.

Just did. I bought 6 15-round magazines for a S&W M&P .40. I don't have one yet, but I think the magazines have a greater chance of being banned than the gun itself, so I got them now.

Yep. I wanted a Sig P556 pistol for about 4 years, but it was too dang expenssive. So, I aquired all the parts and pieces I wanted to add to it, aquired Cabela's points in the process, and waited until I had $900 in points before ordering it. I got the gun three weeks ago, and have since gotten most of the parts on it.

Troy industry battle rail
Troy BUIS
6 PMAGS
AAC Blackout Flash Hider
Sig Sauer Green Laser- This will probably get replaced- not that great
Magpul rail covers
Magpul single point sling
1200 rounds of various ammo

I started with the parts that were very generic and could go on any AR or Sig 556, and waited to buy the battle rail last. That way if I changed my mind I didn't have a bunch of parts I couldn't use. It worked out well. All the parts have been paid for, for quite awhile, and the gun ended up costing me $241 after various discounts and cashing in my points.

I remember many years ago I bought 30 round magazines and a bayonet for a Colt AR-15 that I didn't own yet but knew I would some day. I also went in half with my brother (he had a Yugo M-70), on a case of Chinese 7.62X39 ammo that I didn't have a rifle for. Eventually I did make that situation right by picking up a Hungarian SA-85M.

I have a set of Type 2 Python target grips with nickel hardware. They're a bit worn, so I've been looking for just the right used nickel gun for a couple of years. There's no hurry, I like window shopping.

I have a $40 rail for an AR that I never got around to buying. I'm not even sure if I want to go with that or get a Magpul MOE when/if I do get an AR.

I bought a set of Hornady dies at a yard sale, even though I didn't own a gun in the caliber. Hey, they were $10 and looked brand new. I ended up getting them for $8. Now I need to buy a .44 mag or .44 Special so I can use them. :)
