I've heard of a lot of gun-related pet names, but I was wondering if you folks had ideas for children's names that aren't too far off the deep end.

My son has a middle name of Hunter, the closest I could get to a gun-related name without raising too much suspicion. I was wondering if you had any ideas for a gun-related name for my daughter, who is due next week. Besides Annie Oakley :)

Also, any other gun-related names would be interesting to hear (Sarge, etc).

For a boy, how about "John Moses"? :) Or a middle name of Browning or Thompson? I think names like Colt, Garand, Ruger, or Kalashnikov would be a little too obvious.

I had "Tennifer" all lined up as a girl's name for our then still in the womb child. The idea was nixed when my wife found out it was a surface treament for Glocks.
The child turned out to be a boy anyway, I lobbied for "Nagant" as a first name, but we settled on "Damian".

Gunner, is as gun sounding as you can get, yet is still low key enough it doesnt just stand out and sound silly.

Does Cody or Lucas count. My other son was named after Billy Mitchell but thats more of a stretch.

My father-in-law started calling my nephew "Buckshot" from the time he was about 1 year old.

I once asked him "WHY", and he said, " because when I put him down, he could take off in any direction and would knock down anything or anyone that got in his way."

I have called my oldest daughter "Annie" (Oakley) .... since I took her shooting for the first time and she nailed the target time after time. (She's Carolyn to everyone else.)

All sorts of historical names (shooters, etc.) you could go with ... Audie (Murphey), Sam (Colt), .......

Might take a look at some of the Cowboy Action Shooting names too ... they have lots of GREAT gun/shooting related nicknames.

Rusty (My nickname)

P.S. I actually know of a family who named their sons Hunter and Fisher and were going to name their third child Trapper, but it turned out to be a girl (Heather).

Rustyhammer got it - I have a little Sam (Colt) at home. My wife and I discussed names quite often - she generally rejected most of the ones I came up with :D . An oblique gun-reference name could be Colton (she actually considered that one). She hated more direct ones like Gaston. John (as in MB) was out because that's her brother and dad's name, as was Bill (Ruger) - her uncle's name. Some of the German ones could be interesting - what can we come up with?

Guess you haven't met my son, Remington Hoppes. :D
Hehe, just kidding, but I have heard the name Colt before.
I say Colt for a boy and Kimber for a girl.

Probably some gun guy (or gal) with a common first name and give the last name as the middle name, like Alvin York Skunk or John Moses Skunk or John Garand Skunk, Annie Oakley Skunk, Crint Smith Skunk, etc.

I'd have to put in a vote for Samuel... nothing wrong with naming your kid Sam :)

If it's a girl I'd go with the aforementioned Daisy.

My second daughter's middle name is Brynn. My wife wouldn't let me spell it BREN.

If I ever manage to pass on a Y chromosone, my son will be named Joseph Gunner Correia. Not after a gun, but after my Grandpa. :)

If we have more than one son, the next one will by John Browning Correia, followed by Hyrum Maxim Correia. (note that the Hyrum is the proper UTAH spelling :p )

No matter how sneaky you think you are with regards to the name, when your wife figures it out (if you didnt tell her ahead of time) you're gonna be in a heap of trouble.

Well... you could get technical, and claim inspiration from the New Age movement. How about Wadcutter Boresnake Leade Magnaport Smith? Or Acraglas Patridge Overbore Cylinder Jones?
