  • More than 14. I am one lucky SOB to have so many guns stuck in the back of my safe.

I have as many guns as I have safe space, no more. That said I tend to swap them out regularly, once a gun becomes uninteresting (primarily when ive run out of stuff to tinker with) it usually goes to a new home and i buy/trade for something else.
On a good year I might go thru 10-15 guns, but ive only got 3 that arnt leaving.

Nope, not net. Purchased is purchased. The more people with high numbers, the less of a problem it looks like I have. And no, at this time I don’t think I have a problem.
You're a lightweight IMHO. My first firearm purchase was in 2012, and about a decade later I have over a hundred.

I disagree. You do have a problem. You need to add more firearms to your collection.

I keep spreadsheets of my guns and ammo. My computer crashed. When I bought the new computer, I had to contact the NSA to get backup copies of my spreadsheets.

2015, the year of my divorce. My ex didn’t like guns, and with work and family obligations I didn’t have time to shoot. When we divorced I bought quite a few guns, I’m guessing 9-10 but it may have been more.

I think you are correct, I am a lightweight - for a gun board.

Relative to the rest of the population, I’m far from a lightweight :). Pretty much every other hunter at deer camp has one rifle. I show up at camp with 3 rifles, and pick a rifle for where I’m hunting that day. In the woods - short and light (300 Blackout). In the bean field, my long range but heavier and somewhat unwieldy rifle (7mm RM). And maybe a medium range set up (6.5 Grendel) for if I set up at the edge of a slew and might get a longer shot, but don’t want something heavy to carry. Of course there is my duck gun, my goose gun, my grouse gun and my pheasant gun. My bedside gun. My EDC gun. My backup EDC gun. My plinking guns. My I’ll never sell inherited guns. My just because guns and finally, a collector gun.

You are also correct that I have a problem, I do feel I NEED to get more (they are on “The List”).

I’m a THR lightweight because of a house addition, daughters’ activities, family vacations and everything that goes with those. With that qualifier, for those in similar shoes, I think I’m doing pretty good:cool:.

I keep a spreadsheet too. At least now I know where to get a backup.

I picked up a few of what I owned when I thought Hillary was going to win, and then the majority after Trump won and firearm prices tanked. The free COVID money helped too. I will probably sell one or two to buy a new firearm going forward.

What's next on the menu?

I don't exactly remember. I bought a lot of surplus back in the 80's and 90's. I can't say how many I bought in a single year.

In the past 12 months I picked up:
RIA 9mm/22tcm double stack.
Sig Spear in .223
DB9 gen 4
Kahr CM45
Ruger Pc Charger
Keltec P17
Keltec CP33
AR9 - 9mm AR lower.
3 x Polymer80 frames

These purchases were inspired by the new gun legislation in Oregon. I had the money so I figured I had better buy them now if I am ever going to buy them. Prior to these purchases it had been a few years without buying any guns. The Sig MCX Spear in .223 is my first AR(ish) rifle. I figured I should buy one good one instead of a few cheap ones.

P.S. I didn't count the frames or lower in my survey answer.

The gun journey thread had me recall the chronological order of my gun purchases (not inherited) and it was somewhat interesting. I joined online gun forums in 2017 and the THR in 2019. I know that gun forums have influenced and informed some of my purchases - mostly for the better.

I certainly have all the guns I need and more and I am really close to having all the guns I want (that are within my budget). I don't ever anticipate getting past 7 in a year like the great Wallyworld buying spree of 2020. I have about 3 more guns on my "list". I may sell a couple after completing my list, or I may go off in a different direction. Here's my chronological history.

1982 - 1 (First rifle)
1983 - 1 (First shotgun)
1990 - 1 (First pistol)
1998 - 1
2008 - 1
2009 - 1
2015 - 1 (First AR)
2016 - 1
2017 - 1
2018 - 1
2019 - 3
2020 - 7 (My "Year of the Gun" great Wallyworld giveaway :))
2022 - 3

When I was a teen in Waterville, ME, I sometimes bought, sold, or traded guns like changing daily newspapers!! Sometimes I'd go to Dakins Sporting Goods and trade for another rifle in the morning, shoot it, then trade it in that afternoon, if it didn't perform as expected. When I was 15, I had a credit account at Dakins and may have bought, sold traded as many as 15 or more guns there in a season or year.

It's been 2/yr for me the last few yrs, mostly revolvers and 1 10/22.
I've already hit 2 for this yr, the vintage Redhawk 357 and a King Cobra Target, but there's still 6 1/2 months left, so I wouldn't be surprised if another shows up. It could be an Anaconda, or another Super Redhawk

If I tell a friend something like, "I'm not going to buy another gun until I...___________________", I almost always see something I've wanted for a long time and I'm a liar.

I'm still waiting for my gun year ... One a month sounds like an excellent target to aim for
When I was making a decent amount of disposable income I was in the gun of the month club for several years. I also swapped and sold plenty as well. As I get older and see them rust up due to lack of maintenance I find myself selling off many I no longer shoot at all. Seriously how many dozen 12 GA doubles do you really need to own! I am trimming the inventory to a few that really see use.

I am a mechanical designer and landed a contracting job for Uncle Sam 15 years ago making CRAZY money…CRAZY. As most here, you have a list or even a bucket list of guns you‘d purchase if you had the money. God blessed me with that job and a wife that was good with me doing just that…I cleared both lists in very short time.

Probably around 2004. Went to the Kenton Dog Trials in Kenton OH with 4 guns and $600 or so dollars. Left about 9 hours later with 11 guns and almost 2 grand in my pocket.

Those 4 guns must have been nice ones.

Actually they weren't anything special. 2 of the 11 guns I came home with I had when I got there. Pistols and centerfire rifles were dirt cheap.

Granted, it's been nearly 20 years...but my dad still has a 700 BDL heavy barrel in 6mm Rem I picked up in trade that day. Traded a model 74 Winchester for it AND got $50 boot. I had about $130 in the Winchester.

And while I tend to not be judgemental, when you get to the point that you're finding guns you don't remember getting, no recollection where or when or how....well, then I may feel like you have a problem.
