Days of the open sighted bolt rifle seem to have passed. To bad that, even if I didn't use them I LIKE the way sights look.
This one .243... after I zeroed the open sights, I did scope it... Tasco 3-9x40 in Weaver QuadLocks with an extended front to get the eye relief right. The open sight's still there in case something goes bad with the scope. I do agree though about sights having an aesthetic appeal. I recall reading Jack O'Connor talking about how factory-mounted sights were getting cheaper and worse over the years, and this was in 1970. He mentioned how a rifle gets scoped, the barrel-mounted rear sight gets removed, being considered unnecessary, but the front sight gets left on and it's basically a hood ornament.
