I voted for SA based purely on the fact that I have experience with them, but not Canik.

In my experience, SA makes good reliable guns, and the service issue I had was handled very efficiently and for free as it was a waranty issue.

Same. Had the XD9 long ago and it was a solid gun. If I had to make the choice id go with what I know, even if the Caniks I’ve tried have had nice triggers.

XD has a nice trigger too.

Long before I found out about the Canik triggers, I went to rent 10 different pistols at a range, so I could shoot them all to see which I wanted. The XD was one which I wanted to rent, and the guy at the rental counter told me to stay away from it as a candidate, because the grip safeties on the two of them they had to rent had failed, making the guns unfireable. They had to send them back to the factory for repair. Because of this, grip safeties are a deal killer for me. I did end up buying the TPsf, and the trigger is better than any of the several aftermarket Glock triggers I've shot, and miles ahead of an XD trigger. Short break, less travel, reset, etc.. I sold the SF to make more room in the safe for other Caniks, I still regret it. My friend who bought it stopped shooting his Glock.

I guess I do not understand the idea of a special home defense gun. I have one defense gun. It is on my person if I have my pants on. Every day, all day unless I need to enter the sheriff's office or the courthouse or some other serious gun-free zone. If I leave home, I put on a jacket or coat if needed, or just get in the vehicle and go. No need to change anything. Full disclosure, that one gun is an Springfield XDs 45.

NRA Benefactor Golden Eagle Looking forward to Indianapolis in April

I have never shot either of the two choices so I have no opinion on them. I would probably choose my H K P30 17+1 as I fought my way to my shotgun with 00 Buck.

I have neither of the two handguns specified thus I have no answer to the choices specified. I have my opinions but that does not answer the question posed.

Neither. For an hd pistol it makes more sense to have a useable accessory rail, and then leave it in some sort of quick access safe. My carry pistol never leaves its holster and the hd pistol seldom leaves its box.

I have no experience with the alternative but i do have a DX9 and i will recommend it come HD.

C89B8EA1-7804-47F2-B056-BC64FF759472.jpeg I only have experience with an XDM. I really really like this gun. It’s the 3.8 with full grip. I carry it and use it as a house gun. I like the grip safety. I would like to get a smaller XDM to carry because this gets heavy after a while.

You were the one who made the poor choice of a gun that could not fill both roles.

Yet everyone's situation is different. Your choice of SD weapons may be different than someone else. If you have an apartment/Townhome/house in the city is quite a difference than someone living in the country.. You may not fathom things like livestock, and other real threats to them that go "bump in the night".
Mine do, therefore my EDC is woefully inadequate for 100+ yard shots.

Anything less than a rifle may be inadequate at 100+ yards for most shooters. But that is irrelevant with respect to the idea that handguns for carry and home use have to be different sizes.

What’s hard to comprehend about a smaller gun for EDC and a full size/longgun for your home?
What's hard to understand about using one carefully chosen and highly familiar gun for both roles?

Yikes! IMOHO those are two different roles! I wish I could be like Lucas McCain and tote my carbine everywhere but unfortunately that's not a realistic option, even here in Montana. My EDC/CCW is a sidearm, not because it's the best combat arm but because it's portable and concealable. If long guns weren't better for combat you'd see infantry troops equipped with pistols instead of rifles, and no military I know of has gone that route. If I face violence when out and about, my first choice will be break contact (IE run away!). If I can't flee and am forced to stand & fight, I'll fight with my sidearm.

But in my own home I'm not constrained by the need to conceal a weapon, nor must it be comfortable to tote around all day. My options to retreat may also be more limited at home, and if violence is visited upon me here I probably can't get away from it. So at home if I'm forced to fight I'll so with either a carbine (in 5.56 or .300 Blackout) or my Beretta 1301 loaded with Flight Control #00 Buckshot. Why on Earth would I handicap myself with a handgun if given better options?

I voted the XD9 but mine is the subcompact. Replaced my Beretta APX Centurion for home defense.

Ok, knows who to have on ignore now, I only interact with people who can think and use their brain.

I agree. A very good friend of mine told me . In a fight a handgun purpose is to neutralize the threat or,help you get away ,or help you get to something better. Then again some do not have the luxury of multiple choices for home defence.

Plus, in the interest of HD vs CCW guns, my wife isn’t a big pistoleer and likes some of my guns that I won’t or can’t carry any longer (like my 226) and prefers 9mm, so I keep the bedroom/HD pistol as something she’s more comfortable using, in case she needs to.

I know she really doesn’t like to shoot my compact .45s or .40s, for instance.
