My first firearm was a Christmas gift from my dad in the early 80's - an autoloading 12-gauge Charles Daly shotgun. I guess he figured since I shot the piss out of my Crosman 1377 air pistol and didn't get into trouble, I was probably a safe bet. That shotgun currently stands next to the bed in a homeland defense role.
That was followed by another Christmas gift a year later of a Remington 552 'Speedmaster' .22 autoloader and 200 rounds of CCI 'Mini-Mag' ammo. I still have that one too. In fact, I prefer it to my wife's 10/22, though it does get filthy after a day at the range, but cleaning the things are half the fun, right?
The first firearm I bought on my own was also my first centerfire rifle - an SKS 'paratrooper' carbine from SOG in 1992, just a couple of months after I got married. I had my uncle order it, since he had an FFL, and gladly forked over the $115. I also still have that one (and the wife, too
).
In fact, I've only ever gotten rid of two guns. One was a Davis .22WMR derringer that my mother gave me because she didn't like it, and neither did I, so I had the local gun shop sell it for me on consignment. The other was a Ruger P89DC, only because my grandfather was going to up and give me a Remington 700BDL in .30-06 and I didn't feel comfortable just taking it from him, so I traded him the P89 for it instead.
