I was about 10 years old shooting a Remington single shot .22 rifle (dad got it with green stamps.) Our neighbor bet me his bolt action tube feed .22 rifle I couldn't shoot his Winchester 30-30. Well I almost broke my arm ,but still have that .22 rifle, 42 years later.;)

First Rifle I bought was a 10/22 when I was 18 (had only been shooting a year at that point and had usually borrowed my brother in laws rifles.)

First Handgun was a gift from my dad a used S&W model 19-4 with a 4 inch barrel. He bought it at a pawn shop for me for my 21st birthday.

I got my first firearm in Kansas when I was 19 and stationed at Ft. Riley. It was a Taurus protector .357 mag I will never buy another taurus firearm but at the time it was all I needed. As for why I took me so long to get my first firearm I was raised in a very anti gun family.

Bought my own first one, after a rush of break-ins in the area. My mother refused to learn to use it well, too.

What I sort of consider my first is the Ruger 22/45 Mk3 my dad bought for my last birthday. A guy's sort of obligated to consider the .22 his father gives him as his first official gun, right?

I had been using my dads firearms since I was young and got tired of asking him to borrow his and since i had just turned 18 i felt like i should man up and get my own guns.

and after my first 2 was when the gun bug bit me

I got my deceased father's .44 magnum Ruger Super Blackhawk when I moved to Texas in 2003. New York State gun laws suck compared to Texas. Now I am another 15 firearms richer since I moved here.

My dad gave me my brother's New Haven 500a shotgun for Christmas the year my brother died. Its now my HD and looks nothing like a deer/bird gun it started out as :)

I had been using my buddys 870 express for trap for months, decided to just get my own before my wife had free range on the checking account. My first gun was a wingmaster 870 off the used rack I got about 5 days before my wedding in may 08. First handgun (bersa .380) was just a couple months ago, about 5 days before we found out we were expecting. I'm hoping the next gun I buy we get a house? :D I got great deals on both of them, and plan to give my first gun, the 870 to my kiddo on their 18th.

I inherited my first 5 all at once. The only one fireable at the time was a Beretta 1934, a war trophy from WWII. When I go home for thanksgiving I'm bringing back an NAA mini and a SXS12gua. Don't know which NAA it is, since its a bit corroded and is gonna need a little work to make fireable, and the SXS is of unknown brand but will need to be sawed off by a few inches because the last few inches of the bbl is quite rusty. That'll be a smithy job.

I'm originally from California... I know, I know, thanks for the apologies... Anyways, I'm in Washington now for school, and at the age of 21, I purchased a Maverick 88. Being from California, I did not know the exact steps I had to go thru in WA. They checked my out of state California license, and let me walk out of the shop with my 12 ga pump shotty that same day.

Christmas 1956, I'm 11, my brother 12........ both got a brand spankin' new Steven's 20 gauge bolt action shotgun.
 What can I say other then mom was tired of us using her .410.:D

I bought my own firearm in 1998.

It was a Glock Model 19C - NIB from my local store back east.

That was my very own "first gun" not just the one that I used that belonged to my late husband for self defense.

I have always bought my own guns.

I have given gifts of firearms too.

I have had 3 gifts of firearms given to me now in my life too.

My brothers and I all started shooting at a relatively young age using my mom and dad's guns. At my 14th birthday my mom gave me her J.C. Higgins Model 101.7 .410. It has become a safe queen in the past few years and has caused some controversy between my oldest half brother and myself.

The first gun I bought myself was a Winchester Model 190, IIRC that was the model number, semi-auto .22.

My first gun was my winchester 37 20 ga. Purchased for $50, used. Bought a shotgun because my dad and I hunted cottontails with a beagle on our brushy 75 acre ranch. Still have it, won't sell it....even though I haven't shot it in over 15 years

Santa left it at our house. I knew it was mine when I saw it in the half light after sneaking down the hall before anyone else was up. Or at least I was pretty sure my sisters wouldn't want it. :)

20 ga Ithaca Super Single.

My son has it now.

My mom didn't care much for guns, but she said I could have one when I turned 12. So back in 1965 she traded my father's (no longer around) Stevens 16 ga pump for a used Savage 22/410 and gave that to me. I guess she figured I couldn't get into much trouble with a single shot. I have to give her credit, she did get me a gun, despite her not really liking them.

Some friends and I mail ordered a bunch of Commission 88s from an ad in "Guns & Ammo". They were pre-1898, so we could freely buy them mail order. I learned to shoot a centerfire rifle using that (and subsequent) Commission 88(s).

Age 18, I bought my first 2 guns (Mosin & SKS) from 2TransAms on this forum. FTF. Good guy.

Bought my Rem 20-Ga "Sportsman" from a friend. Dad bought my first .22LR Rem Nylon 66.

Dad's Old Marlin Mountie 39A

I still have that rifle, a .22 tube feed that will chamber S,L, and LR, and an excellent squirrel gun. Not as smooth as today's Henry's (what is?) and slower and heavier than a 10/22, but it has a lot of character. That rifle and Mom were the only two parts of Dad's life that lasted over 50 years together.

My first was a Beretta NEOS (.22lr) at the age of 42.

My parents never had more than a BB gun in the house. Then I married someone who grew up without guns. For years I said to my wife that someday I wanted to get a gun. She always worried about having a gun in the house with kids. This year's election and a spate of break-ins in and around town prompted me to finally get one (and to join the NRA).

My research led me to start with a .22 to learn good habits from the start. But a .22 isn't very good for HD so I had to have another. Then I needed something in between the first two that could actually be carried. Then... well you get the picture. I'm a certifiable gun nut now. My biggest regret is that I didn't start sooner. My younger son absolutely loves the .22 rifle. The older one is all but gone and too cool (or something like that) for a puny .22. Maybe I need to get more 3" shells for the 12 ga. next time I take him shooting. :) Even my wife has come to the range once to shoot the .22 revolver I bought specifically for her.
