The first gun you ever shot

The first time I ever fired a gun was during a Boy Scout camping trip. I must have been 12 - 13 years old at the time. The scoutmasters had brought out personally owned semiauto 12-guage shotguns, and bolt action rifles in .22 LR and 30-06.

I remember shooting that 30-06 and making the connection that this was basically the same kind of rifle that I had read about in all those WWI and WWII histories I was really into. After realizing that that I was hooked for life.

Red Ryder Daisy BB gun. If that isn't considered a gun then a ruger bearcat .22 pistol was the first.

The Dove

First rimfire was a Mossberg Plinkster in .22, when I was 13.

First centerfire rifle was an old Mauser sporter that someone rebarreled in .243, also when I was 13.

First shotgun was a Remington 870 Express when I was 18.

First pistol was a Taurus PT840 earlier this year.

gotta love milestones like that.

Shotgun: Savage Stevens single shot 12 ga ( still have it)
Pistol: Colt police positive ( Dad's )
Rifle: Ruger M77 ( Started my lifelong love affair with the red eagle )

My first was either a Mossberg 20 ga bolt action shotgun or a Winchester 62A .22

Dad gave the shotgun to me a few years back as a Christmas gift and I hope to end up with the Winchester when dad is "done" with it

Colt .357 revolver loaded with .38 specials. It was and still is my father's carry gun. I was about 8 at the time.

First gun I ever fired...

My father bought me and my brother Marlin Model 60 semi-auto .22s. I was in junior high, and I still have that rifle (I am going to pass it down to my kids, when I ever have them). My father took us out with my grandfather, and taught us everything from gun safety, to proper breathing, sight alignment, and how to hold the rifle.

Considering the fact that my father is a veteran of the Vietnam War (US Army) and my paternal grandfather was a sniper/machine gunner in the Finnish Army of World Way II (he was one of the famed "White Knights" that skied into battle against the Russians), I think I learned from the best.

Now, granted, looking at how people hold rifles today, the techniques they taught me may seem a little outdated, but gosh darn it, I hit everything I aim at.

Dad's early-50's era Savage single-shot .22; don't know the model. For my 8th birthday, Dad bought a box of .22 shorts and started me out on cans - after about two of the most painfully long hours of my then-young life, while he taught and drilled me on gun safety. He let me bang through that entire box, while he plinked away on his Marlin 81. I don't know what happened to the Savage; but the Marlin is MINE!

EDIT: Hey Baltimore Boy - my first trigger-pull on a shotgun was a Monkey Wards "Western Field M-175" 20ga bolt; called a 385K when Mossberg put their own name on it instead of some commercial vendor's name. Pop stuffed ONE shell on it and told me to "blast that cut-bank"..... then laughed 'til he cried when my skinny butt ended up on the ground, with ol' Mossy still in my hands but my glasses were laying in my footprints. He then explained to me what "Peter's Hi-Base" shells were all about. My son (at 12, now he's 15) started blasting dove out of the sky like Audie Murphy when he got his hands on it; never "went down" like I did - he was a 'big guy' even then. He'll shoot my aged Mossberg 12 when we're playing around with clay pigeons; but when the doves are flyin' you can't get "Grampa's shotgun" away from him.

The first gun I ever fired was a 20 gauge auto-loader of some sort around age 7. The first rifle was a .22lr bolt action at summer camp when I was 10. Can't recall the make or model.

I didn't fire my first handgun until I was 20, but I sure made it count! It belonged to an older friend of mine who is a retired Marine pilot. Smith & Wesson Model 29 .44 Magnum. I've been hooked ever since. :D
