How did you get your first firearm?

I bought my first gun (Russian 1954 SKS) from a friend I worked with when I was 16. He sold it to me with a thousand rounds of ammo on stripper clips and all the accessories for $200. It took me two years to shoot through all the ammo. Fifteen years later that would take me a weekend.

1967 eight years old and the proud owner of a Remington 581LH from my dad. I still have her. 1982 first gun I purchased was a Browning BDA380 while stationed in West Germany and still have that one too.

My first gun was willed to me by my grandfather when he passed in 1989. A Remington 513T Matchmaster.

It is my most treasured possession.

I had a bb gun and kept all the nearby road ditches cleaned of returnable bottles (2 cents) in order to buy bb's 2 packs for a nickle, I think. This was from the age of about 8. Then my Dad bought me a Stevens Springfield 120 single shot bolt action .22 at the approximate age of 12 in 1962 or 63. The first gun I bought myself was an 870 Wingmaster in the mid 1970's. Now I don't know how many I have, but I've only sold one.

My first firearms..........

I was given a 10/22 for Christmas when I was younger, and an over/under shotgun as well. The better story however is how I obtained my first handgun.

When I was around 12 or 13, I got real into guns. Not that I hadn't been somewhat before, but I was fascinated by them. I owned a Shooter's Bible that I read through often, and marked up with dreams of guns I'd need when I got older. My Dad and I went to gun shows frequently, and he told me in passing once that if I could save up enough money for a gun, he'd buy it for me. Probably a smart bet on his part, considering I've never been known for my saving skills. However, I managed to start scurrying away some dollars and had managed to acquire enough to buy a cheap .22 pistol. (The thing was probably junk in hindsight considering the price.) My Dad told me if I'd wait, he'd buy me a nicer gun when I graduated high school.

When I turned 18, he had forgot about the deal (as had I for awhile). Then one day it hit me, and I brought it to his attention. I still have that Ruger P89.

My first was given to me by my Great Grandfather for my 6th birthday. Its a Winchester Model 69A .22. It has a Savage 4x scope on it.

When I was 13, a hooker I used to go to tossed it to me and told me to take it and jump out the back window, since Vice was banging on the door with a warrant.

My first gun came by chance. I was twelve, the autumn was coming on (grouse, dove, pheasant) and my dad had a bunch of guns and said some of them were mine but they were his guns that I used (didn't give any of them to me until much later in my life). So, I'd been saving my allowance for something expensive I just HAD to have (I have no clue as to what it was anymore) and my dad's friend, Kevin came over and we were talking about hunting. Kevin was going through a divorce and needed money so he said he'd sell ma his 20 Gauge Bolt action Mossberg for like $50 bucks or something like that. Still got it. Still shoot it. I'm considering chopping it down to be a BA SBS Slugger and making a thigh holster for it for when the zombies come. Trusty gun. Love it

Christmas 1953 I got a Winchester 47 single shot .22, the best they made back then. I was totally amazed since my folks didn't have a lot of money, and I'd been hoping for Winchester's other single shot .22 that was $7 or $8 less as I remember. Still got the rifle with the Weaver B4 scope I had installed on it when I was in high school too.

i'm going to be honest, and say i got my first gun illegally. but, considering i was living in NYC, i got it the same way every other law-abiding citizen did.

come to think of it, i never knew anyone in NYC who had legally obtained a gun, ever. isn't that sad?

when i moved to PA, i bought my first legal firearm at Gander Mountain, because i didn't know any better. it still took me a few weeks to get used to having a gun, on my person, in my car, in my home, without worrying about "getting busted."

Bought it when I turned 18

A Mossberg 500 Persuader from Wal-MArt, OTD under 200 bucks

The bottom one, I just added the 590 a short while ago!

I used brthday and yard mowing money to buy my first firearm at age ten. My dad and I went to Montgomery Wards, and we walked out with my Marlin Model 60. I still have it, and still shoot it often...

I walked in to a local small gunshop in Dayton, Oh in the early 80s me in my early 20's and bought it. A S&W Model 586 .357. It's in the safe downstairs.

12 yeras old...moved from the city to the country. Worked hard in the hot sun (110 degrees) to save up enough to buy a Marlin 99 with a metal tubed 4X scope and a couple of boxes of SuperX LR's. The gun was $42.00 OTD Man, I was in tall cotton!
That Christmas I received a Stevens 311, 20 gauge for quail & pigeons from a fat man with the red nose.....and Santa furnished the shells!:D

When I was 10, my father gave me a Remington 514 .22 single-shot rifle. It was way too big for me, but I managed and eventually grew into it. It's in the gun safe now.
