If you could have only one pistol?

Semiauto would be my CZ75 Pre-B in NP3:

Revolver would be a more difficult choice, but I would have to give the edge to my S&W 28-2 4" circa 1967. It's the one on the right, the left one is from 1979. With bigger and less ugly grips of course on both of them.

I prefer a revolver to a pistol.

My favorite is my no dash 4" 686 I hand picked out of a shipment of 20. I also high-graded the best set of concalo grips in the bunch. It was my only fringe benefit. ;)
Revolver over a pistol? for what reasons ?

I don't like pistols and grew up at the later years of "revolvers rule". I remember when the PoPo were starting to change over to 9mm, i.e S&W 39's and 59's. They didn't like them; I didn't like them. It was mostly a reactionary thing, and I never liked hot brass bouncing all over me and the landscape.

I like pistols as plinkers, and admit my CC is an EC9s & spare 7, but I like my old no dash Mdl 37 S&W more.

I'm a long gun guy. Handguns aren't my thaaang. I understand that those who are handgun enthusiasts have brought the short guns along to be far more accurate and versatile, and that's a good thing.

Probably my glock 19X. It’s the ultimate utilitarian pistol and I also have plenty of the 33 rounders laying around. It’s boring and I don’t shoot it that much anymore, but it is one of my home defense guns and has never failed me with well over 1500 rounds through it.

If I could have only one it would probably be my HK P30 LEM (w/Springfield trigger) in .40 S&W. I generally prefer 9mm for CCW but if I only had a single pistol then it would have to serve not just for CCW but also for woods carry. A .40 cal isn't ideal for 900 lb grizzlies but with the 200gr Underwood hard cast it's better than any 9mm load IMO. I'd rather have a 9mm for EDC but the .40 is pretty easy to shoot well in the HK.

Since this is in the autoloader section...it would have to be my Gen 5 Glock 17. I shoot this gun so well and it fits my hand like a glove. Although 9mm is on the smaller side, it can do most things, the gun is easy to work on, and I can conceal it if needed.

I would hate to be in this situation, but could live with my 17 for sure.

The basic problem is that the gun would have to be both my "fun" gun and my defensive piece, and at least in my world, those are two very different things. I'd hate to give up my single actions in .44 Special, but I'd also hate to have to depend on them for CCW.

For autopistols, it's an easy answer.

I only have two bottom feeders, and one of them is a .22 LR. So the Glock 29 is the obvious choice. (I really should take a new picture; the gun looks a lot better now that it has some holster wear.)

The revolver is a tougher decision. I really love N frames and the cartridges for which they are chambered. I'm not a huge fan of carrying them, though. The .357 is my idea of a minimum power floor for things like defense and big game hunting, so I'd stick with the same gun I carried for so many years, the Model 19.

which one semiauto pistol for this revolver guy is a ruger sr22 because i have put 20,000+ rounds through mine and love it, or a keltec p32 because this is the one semiauto pistol that i do regularly carry. given the availability and usefulness of 9mm ammo, the deserved popularity of glocks, and how much i have enjoyed shooting one, my choice ought to be a glock 17, but i don’t even have one.

Oh I didn't really see this was the autoloader thread ! In that case its a little harder as I have some delighful custom guns with which I have a lot of history with. However .... I have a Gray Guns fully gone thru Sig P226R with the E2 grip system that I am extra impressed with the last 5 years I have owned it . I now have a .357 Sig barrel, which is my favorite with the Meprolite QD mount and Holosun 507k Red Dot sight I put on it a few years ago and with a throw of a lever have great day/night sights . The .357 Sig s AWESOME for me ballistically , with 125 grain bullets it mimics the best of 4" .357 125 grain loads . It feeds flawlessly , not bad recoil and is accurate . AND I also have .40S&W and a Threaded 9mm barrel that all work fine except I must use 9mm mags when I use that barrel. I recently found a German Police surplus like new Sig P226 .22 LR conversion slide and 2 magazine kits and they seem to work ok with CCI Mini mags, at least. That lets my P226 shoot .22 , 9mm, .40 S&W and .357 Sig when I can find it !

Also the P 226 fits the same holsters as my beloved old German P220 .45acp, also tuned by Gray guns and fitted with E2 grip system, which I carry in Oregon and Calif and even Washington as it has 8 round magazines. It is very smooth and fast to present and relatively light weight . I have a threaded barrel for Oregon use also for it .
So my Sig P226 Is IT for a "only can have one Pistol not including revolvers.

Got it narrowed down to 4 choices:

1) Colt Combat Commander.

As reliable as the sun rising in the morning; as accurate as a Colt Gold Cup, this gun is part of a limited edition that came from Colt's Custom Shop.

2) Colt Lightweight Government.

More than just being very reliable, durable, and always on target (if I do my part), it's nice and lightweight for concealed carry too. Another big plus is that I already have a .22LR conversion kit for it.

3) Colt Commander .38 Super.

Besides being a decent powerhouse with handloaded ammo, it also makes for a nice range gun with the addition of a 9mm. barrel assembly and magazines. Less expensive ammo means more practice time.

4) Browning Hi-Power Mk.II

For many years my Hi-Power has been my Go-To Gun for range visits and for occasional carrying. Like you can't judge a book by it's cover, the same holds true of this steady performer, capable of some decent accuracy but also great reliability!

Having to choose between the pistols in my collection, probably the SIG-Sauer P226.

Given the choice between all the pistols in the world, I honestly wouldn't know. Maybe thinking about when I get old (if I have the privilege of getting old...) I think I would choose a .380 locked breech pistol like the Ruger Security 380 or a .380 revolver like the Taurus or a .32 H&R Mag. revolver or a .22 Magnum revolver, preferably that have a bobbed hammer or an enclosed hammer.

I’ve never learned anything from these “only one” threads. There is never a consensus on anything
