If you could have only one pistol?

Not only will there be no consensus, it's almost certain selections will change over time, experience and personal handicaps. But currently and hopefully my selection would be one that I shoot best and find reliable as well as versatile. Currently that brings my old Sigs to the front of the line.

Back story.

I've been fighting a left POI bias for some time. It was not handgun dependent, and showed up with revolvers and pistols, DAO, SA, DA/SA triggers, striker or hammer fired, lighter weight or heavier, regardless of caliber, regardless of sight types or length, with recent models and ones a century old, with the same pistol but three different backstrap widths and over a period of months.

Then I pulled a couple old Sigs out of the back of the safe (P239 and P226) and suddenly the pattern while not one hole was balanced right and left. With both pistols. So I pulled out another (P220) and in a different caliber and again, I got a pattern that was balanced if still showing that I am no longer the marksman I was only in my dreams so long ago. I've got a couple more old Sigs that I'll pull out and test, a P229 and my P230 to see if maybe it might be the gun that makes the difference but I'm betting it gonna turn out that it's the shooter rather than what's shot.

Well, this time I'm picking the first autoloader I ever had. The only I wished I kept. The range officer. Just like the name and 45's are silly easy to cast and load. The sights really worked for me . Oh just stop it !!! Im starting to cry

My Glock 19. Without a doubt the best all around pistol I own and if I had to start from scratch again the first pistol I would buy again.

If I could only have 1 today? Probably stay with my taurus gx4. It's the only carry pistol I've owned with no rust issues (glock gen2, hk usp, shield, etc all ended up with rust). Not my first choice for "fun" shooting. A cz p01 would be more shootable/less concealable although I don't about rust.

The P226 in 357sig is my main carry. It's super accurate and has never let me down.

I also like the XDm 10mm, it shoots really good and it's accurate.

I have a H&K Mark 23 being held hostage, I hope I can add this to my list!!

One pistol .... tough decision; .45 ACP or 9mm for a caliber choice based on current technology and historical availability ... I'll go with a .45.

Pistol: My choice: a 1911. In particular, Sig's superb 1911 RCS. Sporting an "Officer's Model" grip length but with a 7 round mag, and checkering fore and aft on said grip, it also has a match tuned 4" bbl., throated and relieved for reliability. Novak sights, and a combat match trigger that breaks at 4 lbs round out the picture. All I need/want in a carry piece; I've never found a better 1911. On the range, it's as accurate as my tuned Gold Cup, but it's light weight make it a far better choice for personal CC. Plus, I do have a Sig manuf.'d .22 LR upper for it that allows low cost practice.

Or .... if a more durable, long wearing model is desired, and the add'l weight isn't a problem; I'd vote for either Colt's Combat Commander or Ruger's SR1911 CMD. While not as accurate as the above Sig 1911, both will still hold 3" gps at 25 yds. Too, I have 9mm, .38 Super and .22 LR uppers that fit both guns, making them in fact, 4-caliber 1911's. This may be cheating as to the original intent of the OP's thread specifying "one pistol" but.....it's a sweet combination that works for me.

Pic's below. Upper is the Sig 1911 RCS. The middle one is my Ruger 1911 CMD with the Colt .38 Super slide mounted, and lastly, a shot of that same Sig 1911 in an Avenger type high-rise OWB holster of my own construction.

Best regards & YMMv, Rod

1911 in .45 ACP - nothing fancy. An out-of-the-box weapon is more accurate than I am.
Problem is what finish. Got blued, park'ed, and stainless. They all shoot the same for me.
Can I take whatever maintenance tools and spare parts I want?

Manys the day when I am away from the homestead that I rely on one gun. The pistol tends to be one of my Walther ppk or ppk/s or clones in .22.

Yes not the best for self defense but everything else considered it's not a bad compromise

This comes up now and again. My preference would be for something that shoots more than one calibre. This would put the 1911 high on the list.

That said, of what I currently have, I would say my 1911-380.

Multicaliber capability on the same frame comes to mind as a theoretical priority for a "one gun" discussion, but what handguns fit that criteria off the shelf?
