If You Only had 3

First would be my 4" S&W Mod 19-4 .357 Revolver. Because it's a beautiful and functional pistol for both target and self defense.

Second would be my Marlin Mod 39A "Golden" Mountie .22LR rifle. Great for just going out and enjoying pulling a trigger.

Third would be my Ruger Mod 77 in .280 Rem. Because there's nothing that I'll ever hunt which can't be taken with it.

I have no need for a shotgun. I don't shoot or hunt with one currently so don't foresee it as a need or want.

No want for one of my "black" rifles either. If I only had three, I certainly don't want to see it optically polluting my 3 others!lol! To each their own though!

.40S&W: Glock G23.4
  • The .40 is decent. I'm familiar with Glocks. Nice compromise on size. I already own it.

.44 Magnum: Ruger Redhawk (Stainless 5.5" barrel)
  • Common Magnum cartridge. Strong reliable gun for woods carry and big predator (or moose) defense. Not too short, not too long. I already own it.

.308 Win: Ruger GSR
  • Another common cartridge, that is reasonably inexpensive and available. Might not be the best choice for all hunting applications, but can be pressed into many roles. I like the feel and how it shoots. I already own it.

as with most threads i'd commented like this, my 'top 3 picks' always change.
Right now?
my 3:
Ruger Vaquero in 44-40
Smith & Wesson mod-25 with 4'' barrel
Knights Armanent M110 or a look alike AR 10

Becouse it’s a tough question

Not really. These threads come up at least once or twice per year, and there always seems to be a pattern. But they are fun, and I'm sure that was your intent.

Savage 110 or Winchester Model 70 in 30-06. Pretty much a do it all rifle. If I thought I'd never have to hunt dangerous game, I'd probably stick with my 243. But definitely a bolt gun in either of those. I actually prefer the 243 because you can stretch from varmint to caribou. A little light for moose, certainly wouldn't want shoot a bear with it.

Some sort of pump 12 ga shotgun, preferably an Ithaca. (Actually, preferably a Winchester Model 12 but those can't take steel shot.) Obviously highly versatile depending on chokes and loads. Grouse to geese, big game in "shot gun only" hunts, home defense in a pinch.

Ruger Security Six or GP100 revolver in 357 Magnum. Home defense, self defense/concealed carry. Load it with light 38 spl for small game hunting.

So there ya have it. Bolt gun, shotgun, revolver. All bases covered.

.22LR, : handguns and rifles.
9x19 mm handguns.
7.62x39. Rifles, …not short SBRs for Amazon Prime.

The multiple guns in each chambering are already here, and most of you can imagine what they are.

.308, probably an AR (but an M14/M1A, Galil or SCAR would be ok too)
Glock 19

hmm. Smart says a 12 gauge of some kind but I haven’t pulled a shotgun out of the case in years

So I’ll go with a .45 1911, probably a Wilson Combat.

So final answer

AR10 .308
Glock 19
WC 1911 in .45 ACP

I’d say
Mmm -

My 357 Marlin -as 38 powder puff load to 357 hot rounds would cover a good amount.

My Remington 660 in 308 with detachment scout scope could cover lots of rifle requirements

And a 686+ 357

Would miss a 22 & 44. Yet only 3

This will change I’m sure

Right now it would be my:

1) 7.62 Garand. Bought from the CMP when I was 18, re-barreled and match conditioned by me and my grandpa for shooting in NRA high power matches. I only shoot it a couple matches a year right now, but if I'm limited to three rifles, this is the one I want to finish the Distinguished Rifleman's Badge with.

2) Winchester Model 52, circa 1940. A great rifle to have on hand for position practice and winter smallbore leagues.

3) Winchester Model 72a. My first rifle, given to me by my grandpa when I was a young pup, and a great plinkin gun.
