For a novice getting started with this game it's important to know how the human eye works. If you want to hand-hold from a sand bag, then you need something small and black to aim at. The eye doesn't do well with empty space or the popular man-sized torso targets. The eye sincerely needs a high contrast, finite target to focus on.
I use a TQ-2 target which is supposed to be for smallbore, but it has a single black bull 2.3 inches in diameter on a 4x6 card. This allows me to file old targets in a index card box. Now along with the load data I have the target to see the results in my load resulted in.
