I don't think this operation was botched. It went off just the way it was planned. Except they got caught.
Mike J said:I really hope something is done to hold the responsible parties accountable but sadly I don't expect it to happen.
Investigations into a gunrunning sting gone horribly wrong are creeping closer to the top of the U.S. Justice Department and its head, U.S. Attorney General Eric H. Holder, Jr.
Had you done the latter you would have been RUNNING the BP by now. But, n-o-o-o, you walked away instead. WHAT WERE YOU THINKING??The funny thing is when I was in the Border Patrol, I almost got written up when my Baton fell out of the holder and was lost in a field. If I had lost my gun there would have been a full blown investigation. If I handed my gun to an illegal, I'm pretty sure I would have done jail time. I guess I just should have smuggled a large number of guns directly to the cartels to avoid any consequences.
It all comes down to this: Is there an inalienable right to self-defense? If there is, each man has indisputable, inestimable value, value that he may rightly preserve even if the life of another man is forfeit.
The ATF said in a statement Aug. 17 that the three supervisors were "laterally transferred" from operational duties into administrative roles, and were not promoted.
Business as usual. That is not the way an organization should be run, with promotions for wagon-circlers masquerading as lateral promotions. The ATF is denying that the three men were promoted, according to an update to this LA Times article:

You read that right, promoted! Not reprimanded, not demoted and certainly not fired, but given bigger jobs with more responsibility and more pay
Okay, yeah, it may technically be a 'lateral transfer', but what do you want to bet that the 'sideways' motion of title had an upward slant in pay and benefits?
The ATF explanatory press release said that pay and benefits would be the same.
This guy gets it.You guys didn't really expect anyone to go to jail, did you? That's what "above the law" means.
