I am interested in seeing a compiled list from the broad knowledge base of the members on this forum... ALL auto-loading rifles that:

1.) Are chambered LARGER than .223

2.) Can be bought for under $1,000.00

There are other criteria that I will use in determining which rifle I will buy, but for now, I only want to limit it to these two things since they are perhaps the biggest factors. Suffice it to say that I would like an "all-purpose" rifle to help me train at long distances.

I already own two good bolt action rifles, one fantastic lever action, and an auto-loading SKS (doesn't quite fit what I want even though I love it!)

I appreciate any additions to this thread!!! Let me know if you all think it would be better placed somewhere else on this forum.

Kellen

Thanks!

One more thing... there is that website www.Genitron.com that lists and sorts handguns. Anyone know of anything like that for rifles?

I think the AR-10s (most ARs for that matter) are higher than $1,000, am I right?

For the most part AR-10s are over $1,000. DPMS has several that are just over, around $1150. I think they have made models on occasion that are under, or they have sales.

a dragunov will be well over $1000, and is not similar in any way to a psl. and saiga 30-06 are pretty rare, only a few hundred of them came into the country and no more are being imported

I'm just about to pull the trigger on a Ruger mini 30 tactical for ~$660. It's new and has been improved over the old minis (of which I owned three).

Plus Ruger is now selling 20 round factory mags to the public.

I also would like to include any and all of the early military rifles. I'll add the Hakim in 8mm.

There is a Remington box fed semi auto rifle that can do 30-06 and similar. I have a 742 which is utter junk, but the later models were better.

AR15 calibered in 6.8SPC

Edit your OP to add the list.

Edit: $800-1000 to build one.

Left off my favorite.

Vz.58 in 7.62.x39mm

Edit: I just re-read the "train at long distances" part. As much as I love the Vz.58 & AK-47 design, it probably wouldn't be the ideal choice for that requirement. In fact, if anyone knows of a 1-2 MOA semi-auto chambered in 7.62x39mm, I'm all ears.

Given the scarcity of these, by number 33 I mean a real M14, and a used
M1A depending on model will run over the thousand mark as well, I think it'dbe VERY wishful thinking to get any of them for a grand or less.

If you're just shooting paper or steel, I'd say the AR15 in 6.8SPC is your best bet, assuming accuracy is slightly more important than the price. You don't need to go all tacticool to get it accurate.

^ I got my M1941 for ~$1900. I got a great deal. I've seen people buy them for $3K. I sold mine for $2.2K, and got told I was being too nice.

Mauser 98K....................7.92X57

The PTR-91 and the CETME are brand names for the same rifle type, which is a semi-automatic G3 variant, the original (non-clone) being the HK91.

I realize that a lot of those are not in that <$1000 price range. Many were suggested that I couldn't really get prices for, so I figured I'd add them and do deeper research later. Additionally, I really enjoyed seeing "new" rifles that I could look up and read about.

I was originally planning on adding a price range, but that exceeds my knowledge. Finding some of the calibers was difficult and that should be readily available. I'll try to do that. If anyone has price range ideas for some of the guns listed, post them and I'll add them to the list.

I'll work on the list again soon.
