And I want to thank you all.

The forum has awarded me Seriouly Likable for 100 likes. Almost every one is from this thread, which means that I must be doing it right.

Time for the first raising of the grain and a chance to see what it's going to look like

And that's yours truly, and the medicine cabinet.
My daughters will dress me down like there's no tomorrow if they find me posting unrehearsed and unedited pictures like this on the net.

Sure, get the girls involved. You'll look great with sparkly bunny ears. I love what you're doing with the stock; I may get inspired to rehab my TC Hawken, now that the weather is nice.

Well I've seen way worse mirror shots.....
My initial reaction on seeing that picture was "huh, thought it was a right handed stock"

don't judge me.....

It looks like it's really coming together and I'm digging the lines.

I've put the stock aside to mature the wood and let the fibers settle again.
A very important step when working with this high quality of wood.
It'll take five days.

By sheer coincidence, that's also the amount of time we're going to spend skiing in the mountains. The entire day was spent packing and I have an early bedtime since we're leaving at 4 am for a ten hour drive, so no work today.

But I think I've managed to source a really good addition to the build today, I hope we can close the deal. It's something that'll really upgrade the stock one level of authenticity.

The ten hours became thirteen due to extremely icy roads at the end so yesterday was mostly a blur. Thank God for modern cars with four wheel drive and a slew of TLA's.

But today started decent and delivered a beautiful afternoon with great skiing.

I found a pist at the back of the mountain with perfect conditions and for once everything came together. I've been diagnosed with SADS so that's a very rare occurrence. There was perfect powdery snow without ice and still mostly corduroy shaped and it winded lazily through the woodland.

Every turn carved and for once I felt the increase in momentum that gave me, there were just a few other skiers and they all stayed out of my way.

I felt like a rooster at the top of a dung heap.

Then I realized I wasn't alone.
A 2 meter bean pole with a ridiculous little moustache and enormous goggles was going backwards down the hill at my left.

The idiot, who shall remain nameless and whom I cannot legally disinherit completely, said "Looking good Dad" and sped away, still going backwards, to the edge of the pist where he jumped, turned 180 degrees in the air and disappeared into the woods at full speed

All of a sudden my SADS returned in force and I continued down wobbily throwing sprays of snow in random directions and flapping my arms while trying not to hit anyone and everything was back to normal.

Today we did the entry level skicross, I think you were supposed to go two and two, the kids went all eight in a free for all melee and got chased by a ski teacher.

Great day!

Finally home again, family time is fun but it's enticing my mind from another subject of almost equal importance.

Namely a certain package waiting to be picked up.

I was hoping to show you the rifle fully assembled with the new sexy bottom, but sometimes size does matter and there's a fair bit of inletting to be done.

The new bottom metal is quite wider than the old military style, but it sports a lever!

I know that a push button style is more practical and that the old one is perfectly serviceable, but the lever says Custom Built like no other option.

I actually dug up an old shotgun top lever from the parts bin and pondered if I should try to build one myself, fortunately I put in a wanted ad and it got answered straight away which shows thay the gods are smiling at me as they are quite rare.

It's a bit too worn to be used as it is, but if I re-blue it the rest of the metal will look shabby. I don't want it to look a brand new rifle, I like the wear on the action and barrel. There's only a scratch near the muzzle that needs to be fixed, but otherwise I want it to look like an old pair of jeans.

Stylish and comfortable.

So I might try some cold blue on it to blend it out. There's always the option to rust blue it and take off the edges to slightly age it.

That. Is. Awesome! Nothing screams Bespoke personal firearm like a lever mag release! This is going to be an amazing rifle...

This yucky looking goo is alkanet root in linseed oil.
That is the proper way to make the red English oil finish.

Doh! Adcoch1 beat me to it.

Thank you!

I like bespoke.

And the Lord bespoke to the lioness in the desert and said, tremble before the awsomeness of the Rifle and be thou a hearth rug to please my Feet.

Somehow I hear Michael Palin doing my inner monologue in this post
