The old lady loves Ghost Hunters. They speak of spirits attached to items.

Question: anybody have any ghost of Russian soldiers haunting their gun safes?

Actually I do. It's a haunted sniper. No matter what, the screw that holds the mount on the base ends up on the floor of my safe and the turrets will be adjusted to max adjustment. Nobody has the combo to my safe but me. I even put RED locktite on the main screw and sure enough the next morning the screw was on the floor. I thought I was nuts so I called my dad over and he witnessed me locktite the screw and torque the heck out of it, adjust the turrets to proper position and put the gun in the safe. The next morning I had him over for breakfast and brought him down to the safe. Sure enough the screw was on the floor and the adjustment turrets were maxed out. I just dont get it. This is every time I put the gun in the safe, not an occasional rarity. The only conclusion is the thing is haunted. LOL

I glass and pillar bedded the action, refinished the stock, added a Timney trigger, got the bent bolt and mount from Rock Solid and found a good reload recipe.

Yes I know the trigger, bolt and mount and Leupold 2-7 each cost more than the rifle. It was a project I always wanted and am thrilled with it.

Nice rifle there Rancho. If youve got any imr4350 or h4350 and some heavier bullets, try around 50-51grns and work up. Im at 54(h4350) with either a 165, 180 (.308) or a 174 (.310) has given me some very respectable groups at 100yds.

Rancho, nice rifle. I don't see the safety on the right side of your rifle that the Timney has. How did you do that?
Ahh, if only! The lame safety is still there, the bolt hides it in the picture. I really wish they would have an option for their trigger without a safety, keep me from mangling the stock so much.

LoonWulf,
I just used up my supply of Hornady's .312" 150s, so I'll be looking to experiment with something new. I take it that your Mosin is like mine with a large bore (mine is .314")? So you are getting good accuracy with the .308s?

mine slugged .310-311. I get pretty good accuracy from .308s, but they seem to be a bit more affected by seating depth changes, im running them out to touch at this point. The .310s have been great, I havent tried anything but the hornady 174grn FMJs. When i have some extra cash i think ill try some of the 174 sierra matchkings.

Here is my contribution

Top is my 1936 Izshevsk 91/30
Bottom is my recent LGS pickup of a 1946 Russian Izshevsk M44

I still have yet to take out the M44 for a spin, but the 91/30 was my first center fire rifle, had only to that point killed paper, metal and clays with .22LR and 12Ga. She's coming out this weekend and I look forward to loud noises and fireballs!

Edit: The M44 also has some rather cool arsenal repair marks on the Stock and obvious signs of use, the 91/30 is all post war cleaned and re-arsenaled and shows little signs of wear minus the not too horribly worn barrel.

I have an m44, now I want another one. I knew I should have stayed out of this one. Hope I find a new job soon, I hate not working.
