New here, first post, look forward to checking out the High Road!

I am in the market for a new lighter weight chassis style hunting rifle and would like your thoughts:

Criteria:
- Caliber will be 300 Win Mag
- Prefer Remington 700 footprint for flexibility to change things in the future
- Chassis preferred
- Would like ARCA rail included
- Must have adjustable cheek riser and length of pull
- Stainless steel action/barrel preferred, but not a deal breaker (carbon fiber barrel OK, but not a requirement)
- Not interested in building, but buying a barreled action and putting in a chassis is an option.

Rifles I am considering:

1) Master Piece Arms PMR Ultra Lite Hunter Rifle: https://masterpiecearms.com/shop/mpa-pmr-ultra-lite-hunter-rifle/

2) Weatherby Model 307 Alpine MDT: https://weatherby.com/store/model-307-alpine-mdt/

3) Bergara MgLite: https://www.bergara.online/us/rifles/premier/mglite-rifle/

4) Bergara Divide (I know this is not a chassis, but close): https://www.bergara.online/us/rifles/premier/mglite-rifle/

Any other options I should be considering?

Thanks for any info/thoughts you may have.

Welcome to the midst. I personally don’t own any mentioned, but I have a buddy running a Bergara. Very accurate, BUT the barrel is extremely picky.
I personally find the 307 interesting, but I haven’t tried one out yet. (Saving my pennies for a trio of bighorn/Zermatt actions) If I might insert my opinion,(I’m not one to get caught up with new cartridges so take that into consideration) if I was setting up a 30 cal magnum, I’d take a really good hard look at the 300 PRC. I don’t think it’s worth selling a 300 win or anything, but starting new…. Just my opinion.

One to look into is the Seekins Havok HIT and HIT Pro, they have chassis options with arca rail. No personal experience but I've heard good things and the look like what you are feeling.

I would second you looking into the 300 PRC, at least compare it versus the 300 WIN Mag and see what you think.

I love my 300win mags, but honestly, if I was getting into 300 right now I'd get a 300prc. It's not that much better than 300wm, but it can shoot all the same bullets and even a little heavier and getting away from belted case is a big plus for reloading.

- Caliber will be 300 Win Mag
OK, stop there!
Consider modern, better designed calibers, capable of accepting long, low drag bullets. If you're stuck on 30, then the PRC is far superior. If you're willing to compromise diameter -- not performance -- there are a few that'll do the same, while punishing your shoulder a bit less.

6.5 CM
6.5 PRC
7mm PRC

I have to slightly disagree with 6.5cm. Good white tail rd- yes, ELK and Moose? I don't think it compares to 300wm especially at longer ranges.

Happy to look at all available options, including different calibers. Thanks!

I really like the HIT and the HIT PRO, that would make this easy. But, they don't offer them in 300 Win Mag or 300 PRC.

Thanks, don't know much about those, but happy to do research.

My rifle tastes are short, suppressed, and very basic so I’m afraid I don’t know much about the ones you’re looking at specifically.

However, I do have a Bergara in 308 that I really like. As has been said, barrel can be picky so prepare to experiment. But once you find a few ammo types it likes….. well then you’re in business.

Regarding 300 Win Mag. I have a lot of respect for the cartridge, and it’s very commonly used here in the US but also globally to a certain extent. It’s a great, established, and commonly available cartridge that can take about any game you’re after.

It’s true that 300 PRC outperforms it on almost every metric I can think of other than availability, but you can still put in some solid work with the old 300 WM and probably find ammo a little easier.

Welcome to THR, by the way!

Thanks for the input, that is a big reason why I initially settled on 300WM, the wide availability of ammo. I may reload one day, but am not in a position to do it yet. Need to stop moving so much and that wont happen until I retire.

I think the 300WM is a great choice for the cartridge. The truth is that there are so many good choices out there that it is hard to go wrong.

As far as the rifle? I don't have any experience with the rifles that you listed, but would like to see the new Weatherby 307 rifles/action!

Christensen has their MPR.......but literally the only reason i know that is my buddy tied to sell me some else's lol.
I really dont like that style of stock so can't help too much....

i will say if buying factory, definitely go 300PRC. While it really dosent do anything the 300WM cant, its set up better right from the get go.
The 300WM at the very least needs to be loaded to a longer COAL, which some guns are capable of, but most are not.

My pick would be Bergara. Two friends and myself have Bergara B-14's, (2) 6.5 CM's and a 7mm Rem, plus I sold a HMR to a happy customer. All 4 will shoot sub-MOA. The rifles are heavy enough to cut the recoil in the magnum rounds and use the 700 REM. scope bases.

I would also consider the Christenson rifles. I have handled them and there may be one in my future. They are nice, but a little pricier than the Bergara.

Thanks for the input, will take a look at the Christenson as well.
