New York hunters

That's a really fine cartridge .. one of my all-time favorites. Good going on the doe.
Thanks, I'm probably up to 10 deer on that gun, quite a bit considering I like to use different rifles. Has never failed me, tho I think I had a 175 nosler partition fail to open in this deer. I have to inspect the deer better but no blood but no obvious exit hole.

Nice job Troy. Will you be cutting it up yourself?
We got to hunt with Bert today.
We seen deer but no shots were fired.
Ed dis see a big fisher today down the street from jims place.
Ya I always cut my own deer, don't have the money to get them cut or the trust that I'll get my meat from a processor or all of it.

I wish I had the time to cut mine. I spent the time I wasn't hunting, working on grad school stuff. I asked my parents if they would make the processing fee my Christmas present this year.....The last deer I cut up (It was also the first I ever did) took me all day to do. If I get a deer after school is over though I want to try my hand at it again. Troy, do you use butcher paper?

Daniel use a vacuum sealing machine.
They are cheap and the meat will not get freeze burned.
A good sharp Seton knives and a meat grinder is all you need.
I have the grinder attachment for the KitchenAid, but the way I see it, By the time I buy a dedicated grinder, vacuum sealer and bags I would spend the same amount as I would have to take to the butcher.

Down herein the Binghamton area they are getting right around $100 to cut a deer up.
I just bought a vacuum sealing machine off of Amazon right before I flew out here on my October trip fir right around $60 or so.
Once bought you'll have it for years and besides using it in your deer you can vacuum seal store bought goods as well.
They are a good investment.
Another good item for cutting up deer is a good size plastic cutting board.

I always used 140 gr. Nosler partitions in my 7x57AI. They always did the job and always exited .. except in a zebra.

What velocities?

I've just dabbled in the 140's for my 280ai. I get 3150fps with the 140's out of a 22" barrel.

Curious as to how the bullet looked performed in the zebra.

The velocity of my load was 2850 out of a 22" barrel. 52 grs. of IMR 4350. I never got a bullet out of the zebra (it took more than one to stop it) because the skinners hauled it off pretty quick, hung it and butchered it for their dogs to eat. They had a taboo about eating zebras. I did recover one from a bull elk once. It had peeled back to the partition and had a very small amount of lead just in front of the partition.

We generally harvest our fair share if deer. Once you do butcher a few deer you will get the hang of it.
Make sure you take a sharpie, date and what type of cut you have.
I stay at my brother's place for a month of hunting. We will cut deer up after it gets dark of on the real cold days. With the both of us cutting we can get a whole deer done in about three hours.
We have Ben getting some cubed up deer meat processed in to pickled sausage, venison meat sticks and other items.
We run two dehydrator for making venison Jerry.
Pennsylvania's deer season opens this coming Saturday. We are all set for that opener on a farm that hasn't been hunted on for years.

I thought the same as you but my butcher has a medical problem and quit doing everything. I read the reviews and settled on a 1/2 HP LEM grinder from Amazon. My wife and I ground almost 30 lbs. of deer burger @ 18% beef fat and it tastes much better than what the butcher did. He charged $60 for grinding shoulders neck and hams from one deer. The grinder was not cheap ($375) but it sure did a super job real quick. I saved $120 on those 2 deer and probably will kill another one this year so that's $180 off the $375. I'll be ahead of the game after the next 2 seasons.
I give that LEM grinder 5 stars.

Sometimes I use paper, for hamburger patties I like plastic wrap, freezer bags are ok for short term. Like to get a vacuum sealer some day.

Ya I like 140s in the 7mm, I want to grab some 145 speer hot cor when they get cheap again and some 140 partitions when sps has them less then $45-100 again. May try some 150 partitions in my 7wsm the 140s maybe a bit fast for that round. My 7x57ai was making one hole groups with 140 Sierra pro hunters but they got pricy for a cup and core.

Yesterday we seen 22 deer. The only shot opportunities we at really small deer.
My brother had a ear doctor's appointment so I had him drop me off at a Lourdes walk in clinic down in Binghamton.
I have been coughing a little for a couple of weeks and my lungs felt like they were getting full so they checked that out along with the lyme deciese. They gave me antibiotics for both issues. Should start to feel better here shortly.
Putting a full day in out in the woods was getting to be a little much.

Good luck to everyone harvesting a deer or another deer.

Today was a good day. My friend Ed and his other half Mel scored on deer.
Mel got a small button buck and Ed got a small racked 8 point.
Ed got a small deer on the first day of deer season. This is totally gratification, they are in their early fifties and hunted for close to thirty years and never shot a deer.
Four days of open season and they got three deer. Hopefully they get a few more
Tomorrow we will be cutting up some deer for them to take back with then when they leave next Tuesday.
This is what it's all about.
