Not my challenge but any surplus bolt gun wearing a dot sight or bi-pod is going to be "Sporterized". If it shoots an original military caliber cartridge, it ought to be of interest?

greetings,

looks like my final entry for this match, so here goes

class 2
Russian M44 carbine
with S&K scout mount
Millet 2x20 pistol scope
1946 Russian surplus ammo
what a muzzle blast & fireball !!!

I know, that ammo is old, BUT it usually shoots a very tight group at 100 yds
either the ammo is old enough to finally go belly up - or (more likely) my eyes have gone past the point where even a scope is much help! :(

oh well, I'll be trying this combo again after my eye surgeries - then I'll know

hope not the last entry for you Merle cause I know you have a vast collection, good luck on the surgery though, if it is just cataract surgery you should be up and shooting again within a short time.

Suppose to be nice weather Sunday hope to do the Swedish and Fin M39, redo the Swiss 1911 and maybe some more

well, I'm scheduled for both eyes, and they tell me to expect a two week recovery after each, so that pretty much wipes out November.... :(

Tried the Swiss 1911 again today, didn't get the tight tight groups like last time, could be the ammo lot, could be me. Di two volleys, first volley I was shooting, might have been the sun was a bright day, second volley I put the black circle on the tip of the front blade no space and got a higher group, but they both scored 93 actually. I have two Swiss 1911, will try to get the other one out also.

The Finnish M39 Mosin. My first volley was blown away at the tight group but two went wide. I decided to do a second volley thinking I could keep all in the 10 ring...wrong!, second volley went wider, I'm thinking because the rifle got warm, I averaged a shot a minute.

Czech 98/22 Mauser. Last time it was shooting center in black, this time low left, could be the ammo lot. However the group size made me happy even if I scored lower because of shot placements.

yeah, I'm having a real problem like that - bad news is sometimes it's the same lot/box of ammo
just confirms how quickly my eyes are going downhill - but I'm already getting hyper about the surgery...... o_O

Those sights on the Mauser are tiny, was a bright day could be the light effected me, could be the ammo lot. Either way that is a tight group all things considered and consistent. It might not have the best score because of placement but still happy from the group size. I only tried one volley.

I've been watching these challenges, and wanted to get in on some of them. The stars have aligned, and I shot for this challenge. I think I did fairly well too.

I know I can only enter one target, but I want to show that, while I am cherry picking the target to enter, it's a small cherry tree. This rifle is a shooter.

1942 Sako-barreled Finn M39. Receiver is dated 1899. It's an early import from C.A.I., the stamp is at the muzzle end of the barrel. Has a wartime stock, stamped with the Sako imprint. Barrel is lightly frosted, not dark. Overall a nice rifle.

Load is a home-cast Lee 312-185-1R, cast of clip-on wheel weights + 1% Sn. Sized .311, aluminum gas check, TAC lube. 17gr Alliant 2400.

Here's 3 consecutive targets. Shot one after another, 10 shots per target, averaging 1 minute per shot.

96-1x

97-3x. The hole at 7 o'clock, in the 9 ring, was the first shot :(
Ignore the note on the target, I can't count.

Class 1, benched with a front rest. Issue sights. This is my entry. 97-3x P1010210.JPG

Now, if I get enough time, I'll enter the revolver challenge....

Nice!
When I took out my VKT yesterday was so happy to see 8 shots in a 1 1/4 group and then two shots had to ruin it lol. Had to look hard and confirm but there were 8 shots in the group was hard to see one of them but the ammo box was missing ten out of twenty also lol. I have a Sako I'll try to get out also. Was also surprised that steel case Tula did so well, have tried Prvi shoots real good also but 2 o' clock of the bulls.

No problem posting info pics I did as well,

I've got a VKT and a B barrel, along with my Sako M39. I just haven't gotten around to shooting the B or VKT yet.

So many rifles, so little time.

I do enjoy following these challenges, even if I don't enter.

Did you have the bayonet folded or extended , I always extend it when shooting.

Took out today the Argentine 1891, Swedish Mauser, Sako M39 Mosin, Swiss K31 and a AK for the other challenge , will get pics up soon, the Argentine I think could have been better, there was a man and his dad shooting next to me, his dad looked very much like my mine the could have been brothers, just memories and emotion flooded me for a bit, was a little wet and salty in the eyes while shooting the Mauser, wishing I could still go shooting with mine, miss my dad.

There was also a guy with a 8 inch barrel 12 gauge shotgun next to me on the other side, which messed me up a bit on the K31, dang blast was huge from it.

But will post pics in the next day or two from the results.

Only 50 yards, but get's it done on whitetail every time. ;) Couldn't get to 100 yard benches cause everyone was sighting their own deer rifles. And only 3 shot group...lol. but I love milsurps. Awesome seeing you guys wringing them out! Good stuff.

Self Bubba'd $75 No4 Mk1, 17.25" barrel, cheap TRS 25 red dot. Handload

This thread got me motivated. Ordered three boxes of 6.5x55 for my 1942 Husqvarna M 38. S&B 140 grain PSP; S&B 131 grain PSP and PPU 140 grain PSP. Time permitting, I'll test each of them, see which if any the rifle likes and if there are some decent results, shoot a target for record. They are cool old guns.

I was very happy with this group at 100 but don't have very many of these rounds left. Hopefully one or all of the stuff I ordered will shoot well too.

Like I said earlier, when I was out last weekend there was a shooter next to me with a 8 inch barrel 12 gauge shotgun, the muzzle blast was overwhelming , on the other side there was a guy with a .308 rifle with a muzzle brake that with each shot a blast of wind hit me. So the one shot high on the target was the 12 gauge next to me just when I was cracking off the shot and it went high but it is what it is. Pic of the rifle is back from 2008 when I first tested it I didn't sand bag it.

1891 Argentine Mauser, I feel I could have done better with the 174 gr volley, but I wasn't mentally focused as I could be. The 174 gr actually scored better than the 180 gr but I like the group of the 180 gr better. I have two of these rifles but don't think I 'll get a chance to use the other one before the end of the challenge.

K31 with a walnut stock, GP 11 shot a little high, Prvi ammo a little to the left, both groups sized out at 2 1/2 inches though. If only the GP11 ammo had grouped a little lower could have been a score of 100

Finnish M39 Sako, Prvi 150 gr shoots real well in it, maybe a little better than Tula, but Prvi grouped 7 o clock of the bulls while Tula was centered. I thought for sure I shot ten shots, the bottom hit I'm not sure if it is one or two, may have done 11 shots so not qualifying this one but calling it 94-2X cause I'm not taking it out again soon.
