Please explain new NY gun law.

You have the option to move it out of state.
Not in the case of an inheritance. It can't be transferred or sold out of state in that case and the state confiscates it.

My lord... what a bunch of idiots to pass such a law. If you New York residents don't vote out the people doing such in the next election, you get whats coming to ya.

The problem is, the downstate residents (as in New York City) who vote for the idiots in Albany outnumber us upstate residents.

Interestingly NY State legislature is dominated by Republicans, but only 18 voted against it to 43 for it.

Not true. The NY State Assembly is dominated by Democrats, and the Senate is only in the hands of the Republicans because 5 Democrats are caucusing with them.

A Mandatory life without parole for murdering a first responder but no mandate including common folks just made the rules "Us verses Them,"

If they'd given the guy life without parole for murdering an old lady with a hammer in the first place then 2 first responders and the victim who was in the burning house would still be alive.

The politicians let the guy out of prison, but it's our fault that he killed again and we have to be punished?

How do they plan to enforce such an absurd law?
Regarding things that are already owned....
Are they going to knock on every door and check every magazine?
They have no clue who has how many magazines or their capacity. IMHO they are really just passing laws to kid themselves because they are virtually impossible to enforce these laws without catching an offender for some other more serious crime. (In which case having 3 extra rounds in a magazine is the least of that person's concerns.) receipt from every company that ever sold a magazine to any person in NY....and then can they prove that person didn't legally sell it to someone else in any state before all this crap happened? And even if they do ALL THAT they are still clueless about things bought out of state or from private sellers? (Especially, if it was paid for with cash because then you don't even have a credit card or check paper trail.)

Moreover, IMHO they are just BEGGING to increase the black market which they hate to admit is absolutely HUGE in New York. (Some estimate that 1 in 4 guns in the state are already "technically illegal" for one reason or another AND that is just the ones owned by otherwise lawful citizens.) Also, the guns can't be transferred... How can the government dictate what People do with private legally owned property?

They will have a hard to stop smuggling... Are they going to search every vehicle coming into the state for magazines that might be purchased in other states? I guess since they do so well keeping narcotics, stolen merchandise and counterfeit goods (I for one have NEVER heard of a knock-off watch or purse for sale in NYC) out the state and especially NYC that it will be a piece of cake to stop any firearm related items too.

I DO NOT ENCOURAGE, SUGGEST OR CONDONE ANYONE BREAK THE LAW!
I simply am questioning how they plan to actually enforce these laws without trampling on mAny of the other rights granted to people by the bill of rights. (Not that I would put it past the people who passed these gun laws literally at minutes until midnight.)

As far as the no transfer goes, how will they determine a value to pay the family for their private property? I foresee a lot of people spending their final years in other states rather than turning over thousands of dollars of property to the government.

Its just about too late for NY residents do do anything now except for what xfyrfiter said.

I'm wondering how the New York State Police are going to process registration of over a million firearms in the allotted year (minus weekends and holidays).

^ & they dont have any kind of set up right now for this,& are undermanned as it is....

There may well be parallels between our "noble experiment" of alcohol prohibition and gun bans.

During Prohibition, the amount of alcohol consumed actually went up as people substituted beer for hard liquor. The parallel: criminals might turn to machine guns if semi-autos are just as hard to obtain.

During Prohibition, the rate of incarceration exploded. In 1919, there were around 4,000 federal convicts. In 1932, there were over 26,500. We can expect a similar explosion in the prison population under gun prohibition.

The murder rate per 100,000 went from 6.6 to 9.9 between 1920 and 1933. Under gun prohibition, we can expect the 20 year trend of decreasing murder rates to be reversed.

The big question is whether we are capable of learning. Our forefathers were humble enough to realize that alcohol prohibition was an unmitigated failure and reversed themselves. I see no such humility among the insufferable do-gooders of today.

Judging from The War on Drugs I'd have to say no, not capable of learning. Then again The War on Drugs gives the political establishment an excuse for so many things why would they want to end it?

This bill prohibits possession of all magazines with the capacity to contain more than ten rounds, regardless of the date of manufacture. Going forward, individuals will only be able to obtain magazines that can contain up to seven rounds. Those who currently possess magazines that can contain more than seven rounds will only be permitted to maintain up to seven rounds in such magazines.

Glad New York could trust it's citizens to not put more than 7 rounds in a 7-10 round mag.

Anyone else see the irony in how Bloomberg was complaining about guns flowing into NY from out of state but suddenly its kosher for evil "high capacity" magazines to flow to other states?

I fail to see how a NY resident could be prohibited to selling a rifle to someone out of state.

God help us all if this garbage gets upheld.

I DO NOT ENCOURAGE, SUGGEST OR CONDONE ANYONE BREAK THE LAW!

When a law is blatantly unjust, civil disobedience becomes increasingly justifiable.

I say this as a Texan, with no skin in NY, but the sentiment is valid. This has just become (even more clearly) a civil rights issue in NY, where a minority segment of their population is being oppressed and punished by a vengeful majority.

There is still a way around the law (because the ignorant tyrants haven't heard of it yet): self-manufacture of law-compliant firearms. If they meet certain criteria, they do not require registration, no? At least the Elite won't know where every law-abiding citizen's guns are when they make their move.

forty hours a week...

and fifty weeks in a year...

so that's 2000 hours...

1,000,000 guns to be registered... more or less...

that's 500 guns an hour.

an hour to register each gun...

and VOILA!! 500 new full time jobs!

50,000 a year plus benefits...

Twenty Five Million to register the guns. Is there a fee? Somehow I don't think $25 a gun will cover it...

Unless my math is wonky

Sadly we gunowners are greatly outnumbered by the left leaning crowd that wants everyone disarmed. Due to NYC, Albany County, and Erie County, we have no hope of winning back our rights.
I am already looking to move my firearms and myself out of the state. With the incredibly high taxes this will provide the final impetus to move. My property tax went up 6.2% this year alone!
My friends, please organize and stay alert or what happened here will happen to you. Register to vote and stay organized.
We fought as hard as we could and will continue to fight as long as able. I am sorry to report we are being overrun here in this bluest of blue states. Let what has happened to us serve as a clarion cry to you. Get involved now! They are coming for your firearms!

Is this the law that went in affect for you guys? I couldn't figure it out and no where i saw listed this bill number.

http://open.nysenate.gov/legislation/bill/S1422-2013

I watched a youtube video by someone that made it sound like this is a different bill to try to be pasted by next year. It would be worse that what just happened...
