Ruger LCR in 327 Fed Mag just announced

So, it is feasible to have a 327 MAG with a two-inch barrel. Why did Ruger sit on that one for so long?

I predict a big seller...and a solid self defense revolver.

I love my sp101 in .327 fed, but may pick this one up too. I would love it to get that Smith and Wesson j frame they made in .327 but never got a chance to get one. Oh well.

The ballistics are not terribly impressive from that short of a tube, if you look at BBI. But it should be enough to get a peep away from you or plug a vicious dog if need be.

32 Magnum Federal 85 gr. JHP;

2” – 845 fps.
SP101 – 945 fps.

327 Magnum Federal 85 gr. Hydra-Shok;

2” – 976 fps.
SP101 – 1385 fps.

I have my doubts about how popular it will become. I am surprised the 32 Magnum never took off for conceal carry. I might get one just in case it turns out to be a short production run.

This is cool for the people that have been wanting one of these.

It's been my impression that the 32 mag needs at least a 3 inch barrel to get up and moving. But maybe this will be the kick in the pants ammo makers need to start making more 32 ammo. You might even see someone make some short barrel 32 ammo like has been done with the 22 mag self defense ammo.

Im in for two. I have been wanting this combination for a long time. Now wanting a 3" LCRx. THAT would be perfect.

I'd prefer either a 3" version, or better yet bring back the old SP101 w 3" barrel.

.327 Fed Mag is a velocity-dependant cartridge. I fear 2" of barrel would be better spent on either a .38 +P or one of the short barrel specialty .357 magnum loads.

If ammo manufacturers can make short barrel specialty .357 magnum loads and short barrel specialty 9mm loads, they can make short barrel specialty loads for the .327 magnum also right?

I'd also like to see the 3" version, just without the hammer.

But I have no doubt this will bring about more ammo options

This setup will most likely shoot ballistics in the same ballpark as the 38 Special through a two-inch tube. In longer barrels, it will leave the 38 snub in the dust, not to mention having an extra sixth round. That's a pretty efficacious combination for two small frame revolvers carried together that share the same platform.

Talking to a Ruger Rep at the LGS last Friday he told me about the new LCR. He claimed that while the demand for them was probably small as compared to other caliber offerings, that it was a niche that other gun manufacturers had missed.

My conversation about a year ago with a Ruger rep had a different line. The SP101 327 MAG was dropped to free up production capacity for other more popular models. Demand for the 327 was strong, however, and Ruger anticipated a resumption of production once the new factory in North Carolina was up and running. I must admit, I did not see it coming back in the LCR format due to the recoil of the SP 101 model.

Would love to see a large frame revolver chambered for this. Pack at least 8 rounds in it with a light rail on the bottom and I think you would have a good piece for the HD market.

I see this as a modern lightweight 32 snub with that much needed sixth shot.

The fact that it can shoot 327 is just a bonus.

This bridges a huge hole in the market for a lighter kicking snubby that's not a rimfire

Thats it exactly. Im sure the guys who like bottom feeders will just roll their eyes, but for those of us who like revolvers, this is an excellent offering.

Yep!

Ruger is a large frame big bore lcr away from making every other lightweight or defensive revolver offering obsolete.

With this addition the j-frame certainly is.
